The competitiveness of enterprises depends on a number of factors, both external and internal. The factors of the external and internal environment are constantly and dynamically changing, which puts enterprises in need of designing of new models and strategies of development, management, search for new ways, methods, means of ensuring competitive advantages and gaining of profit. It is proved that economically, the methodology of factor analysis consists primarily of two methodological principles of M. Porter. According to the first princile, these are the position of the enterprise in the market. According to the second principle, competitiveness lies in the plane of the enterprise as a chain of value creation. Institutionally, the state plays a decisive role in the formation and development of a market economy as a typical form of production, ensuring competition under monopoly conditions. In the conditions of imperfect competition after World War II, the state becomes the subject of industrial relations and on the basis of a number of institutions (social partnership, income policy, development of education, promotion of scientific and technological progress, etc.) determines new parameters of the progressive development of market economy, solving issues of enterprise competitiveness. In the analysis of environmental factors today, insufficient attention is paid to the role of the state, which is of particular importance for countries pursuing market reforms. The study shows that the state plays a fundamental role in transforming a market economy into a typical form of production, and on the basis of mechanisms of collective bargaining regulates the more effective development of relations regarding hired labor services and the development of labor potential. The actions of the state in view of limiting monopoly power, protecting competition, pursuing a policy of social dialogue and forming the middle class in the form of new institutions, norms, rules allow to develop a market economy, entrepreneurship to solve the issue of competitiveness of enterprises in the conditions of imperfect competition markets.
