The aims of this research were to find out whether there are good response and improvement of students’ speaking skill between before and after being taught through Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). The samples of this research were the VIII A and VIII B class of the Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 21 Tangerang in academic year 2015/2016. The researcher used non-equivalent control group design. The instrument was oral test. The result of the research showed that there was improvement of the students’ speaking skill in actively communicative by using CLT. The result of t-test showed that t was bigger than ttable. The result of tcount was 4.2105 and ttable was 2.0021. It means that the researcher’s hypothesis (H1), there is significant difference of post-test scores between experiment class and control class is accepted. The average score of pre-test in experiment class is 67.33 while the average score of pre-test in control class is 66.50. The average of the post-test score in experiment class was 83.00 while the average of the post-test score in control class was 75.00. It showed that CLT can improve the students’ speaking skill.
This research is expected to know whether there is significant different score of vocabulary test before and after treatment has been given. This research is a quasiexperimental design where the population is Tenth Grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Tangerang. The researcher took sample from X.4 class as control class and X.5 class as experiment class. The sample is 40 students for each class. In collecting the data, the researcher used interview, pretest and posttest of vocabulary and applied peer drilling as a technique in teaching learning process. Furthermore the researcher calculated the data by using t test. In addition the hypothesis test result at the degree of significance 0.05 indicates that in control group H₀ is rejected and H₁ is accepted because t count > t table (4.70 > 1.684) where there is a little significant difference of student's vocabulary test whereas in experiment class, H₀ is rejected and H₁ is accepted with t count > t table (18.08 > 1.684). It means that there is more significant difference of student's vocabulary test. In other words, Peer Drilling can improve student's vocabulary mastery in the classroom.

The VIII A was taught by using Cooperative Learning, while the VIII B was taught without Cooperative Learning. The speaking test gave to gather the data. The test had been tried out to find out validity, reliability, normality and homogeneity. The formula was used to analyze the data was ttest. It was used to determine whether or not there was significance different between students’ score at experiment group and students’ score at control group. After the data had been collect by using test, it was found that t-test was (3,681), whereas the t-table was (2,009) for a = 5 %. The t-test score was higher than t-table, (3,681>2,009). It means that Ha (alternative hypotheses) was accepted while Ho (null hypotheses) was rejected. Since t-test score was higher than t-table, Cooperative Learning was effective in improving students’ speaking skill at the 8th grade students of SMPN 1 Legok, Kab. Tangerang in academic year 2013/2014. Keywords : Cooperative Learning, Speaking Skills
