After briefly recalling the main features of laser-produced plasmas and the problems involved in the production of nuclear DD-reactions, the author deals with the fundamental data on heating mechanisms. Experimental results and heating limitations are then presented. Finally, a review of present and future possibilities of both laser and plasma parameters is given.
A 2 GW laser interacts with a solid deuterium target. Framing and streak pictures give the evolution of the plasma for different cases of focusing. A tentative interpretation is suggested.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
