Rats received 10 mg. of L-or D-penicillamine daily over a period of three weeks. 1. The excretion of xanthurenic acid after loading with 40 mg. tryptophan increased from 0.2 mg. in the control animals to 5.7 mg. after L-penicillamine and 0.6 mg. after D-penicillamine, 2. The aspartate-aminotransferase activity in the liver of L-penicillarnine-treated animals was decreased by 20%, while D-penicillamine had no effect. 3. The alanine-aminotransferase activity was decreased by 50% in the liver after treatment with L-penicillamine, and by 20% after Dpenicillamine.
An apparatus for maintaining the constancy of low substrate concentrations in kinetic measurements with a pH-statA pH-stat is equipped with a combination of burettes, arranged so that substrate solution and the titration reagent required for neutralisation, are added to the reaction mixture at the same rate. If the molar concentrations of the substrate solution and the titration reagent are the same, the substrate concentration in the reaction mixture remains constant. In this way, even for low substrate concentrations, rectilinear reaction-time curves are obtained over a few minutes. The method has been tested in the determination of the K m -values of penicillinase and lactate dehydrogenase.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
