Abstract. The implementation of Industrialized Building System (IBS) has been identified as a potential solution to perk up almost every significant aspect in the construction industry such as quality, productivity, duration of construction, labour, cost effectiveness, safety and waste production. However despite a series of promotions by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), the implementation of IBS in Malaysia only accounts for approximately 15% of the market share due to several reasons. This study was conducted to identify the perceptions of local contractors towards the implementation and the risks faced in IBS construction projects in Malaysia. The data on the problems and risks of IBS implementation were collected by means of questionnaire survey and interview of G7 contractors around Kedah state. The results showed that contractor competence has been considered to be the most risky factor in IBS construction in Kedah.
Abstract. This study aims to determine the level of wastewater pollution at Clan Jetty, Penang. 20 locations were chosen for water sampling around the jetties. Experiments were conducted to investigate the parameters, namely, temperature at each point, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), the presence of Coliform and E. coli, Nitrate Nitrogen, Ammonical Nitrogen, Suspended Solids, Oil and Grease as well as Total Phosphorus (TP). Laboratory results showed that Point 1A was the most polluted location compared to other sampling points. The highest COD recording was 5824 mg/L at Point 1A and the lowest amount of 103 mg/L was recorded at Point 4. This study demonstrates that the absence of a sewerage system contributes to marine pollution around the jetties. Thus, a sewerage system is the best solution to improve water quality around the jetties in the future.
