One of the processes in making batik is sticking wax using batik wax raw material. Batik wax containing paraffin will produce smoke when heated. This smoke contains various pollutants, namely CO, NO2, SO2, CO2, HC, H2S, and particles which have many negative impacts. Smoke generated from melting batik wax will be inhaled directly by workers who can irritate the respiratory tract, this if it occurs in the long run will cause damage that will cause an inflammatory reaction. Inflammatory reactions caused will increase the number of leukocytes. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of the number of leukocytes in batik craftsmen. This type of research is descriptive with saturated sampling technique in 20 batik craftsmen at PT Batik Semarang 16. The sample used is venous blood cubiti to then measure the absolute leukocyte count. The leukocyte examination method in this study uses dilution and is read using a Neubauer Improved calculation chamber. Pelitian results obtained 40% batik has an average total number of normal leukocytes and 60% above normal (mild leukocytosis). The older and the longer the working period the higher the total number of leukocytes. Obtained 100% batik not wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). Batik makers are advised to wear PPE when doing batik work.
Kadar total protein didalam darah dapat diketahui dengan pemeriksaan dilaboratorium klinik. Pemeriksaan total protein dapat menggunakan darah vena yang dibuat plasma atau serum. Spesimen yang digunakan pada pemeriksaan kadar total protein dapat berupa serum, plasma, cairan serebrospinal dan urin. Penggunaan spesimen plasma dapat meningkatkan kadar total protein sebesar 3 -5 % disebabkan adanya fibrinogen. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan spesimen serum dan plasma EDTA terhadap kadar total protein. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode Biuret karena lebih mudah dikerjakan dan hasilnya bersesuaian dengan metode Kjeldahl. Jenis penelitian ini adalah observasi analitik dengan desain cross sectional. Populasi penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa AAK 17 Agustus 1945 Semarang dengan jumlah sampel sebesar 30 orang. Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan rata -rata kadar total protein dengan spesiemen serum 77,36 g/dl, sedangkan rata -rata kadar total protein dengan spesimen plasma EDTA adalah 81,30 g/dl. Dari hasil analisis statistic menggunakan uji Paired T-test didapatkan P-value < 0,05 dimana terdapat perbedaan bermakna kadar total protein menggunakan plasma EDTA lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan serum. Perbedaan ini dapat menjadi perhatian bagi analis kesehatan dalam pemilihan spesimen untuk pemeriksaan kadar total protein.
