The promotion of physical training (PT) and positive behavior in the elderly requires effective interventions. This study shows the effect of PT during an 11-week intervention program by applying behavioral strategies. A total of 63 participants aged 65 years old were randomly divided into three groups: Physical with a behavioral group, PB (n=18), Physical group, PG (n=23), and Control group, CG (n=22). PB and PG participants underwent a six-week group-based multi-component PT for one hour per session, three sessions a week. After PT, participants in PB began five-week behavioral exercises for 30 min, twice a week. Meanwhile, CG participants only have to maintain their daily routines. Upper and lower limb muscle strength and mental health were assessed. Results from repeated measures ANOVA showed significant differences between groups due to time factor, group and time interaction, and between-group factor (p<0.05) for Right UL, Left UL, and LL strength. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) for mental health [F(2.58) = 33.49] (p<0.05)] showed significant main effects among participants in PB, thus indicating improved mental health. In conclusion, combined of PT and behavioral strategies may be a promising strategy in enhancing better physical and mental well-being of the elderly.
Experiments were conducted to develop and standardize the protocols of cryopreservation of sperm of Barbonymus gonionotus. Three extenders Alsever's solution, urea-egg-yolk and egg-yolk citrate and four cryoprotectants methanol, ethanol, DMSO and DMA were used. Cryodiluents were prepared by adding 10% cryoprotectant to 90% extender (% v/v). Milt and cryodiluents were mixed at a ratio of 1 : 9 for Alsever's solution and 1 : 4 for urea egg-yolk and egg-yolk citrate solutions. Alsever's solution with 10% DMSO showed the best performance and produced 78 ± 2.55% sperm motility at the post-thaw period. Urea egg-yolk and egg-yolk citrate with 10% DMSO produced 76 ± 1.87% and 74 ± 1.87% post-thaw motility respectively. When cryopreserved sperm was stored in liquid nitrogen for 130 days, a gradual reduction in motility ranging from 31.25 to 37.50% was observed. This could be happened due to frequent opening of the nitrogen dewar that could cause thawing of the sample. In breeding trials, sperm preserved with Alsever's solution and urea egg-yolk plus 10% DMSO produced 14.28 ± 7.06% and 15.46 ± 5.50% hatching respectively. In contrast, sperm preserved with egg-yolk citrate and 10% DMSO produced poor hatching as 8.01 ± 2.15%.
Till now not so many research studies have been conducted on the body's immune response to COVID-19 infection, and it is not clear whether those who had recovered from the COVID-19 virus may get reinfected again or not. The vulnerable groups include young children and older adults who were at high risk of infected by this pandemic COVID-19. Those who had recovered from these infections also need to maintain and improves their quality of living. However, there is limited evidence regarding the exercise and physical activity that helps to maintain the overall physical functions. Therefore, this current paper was to map out empirical evidence on exercise prescriptions and physical activity for the prevention and managing the spread of COVID-19 infections. The methodological framework by the TIDIER guidelines were utilized to guide the conduct of MEDLINE complete at EBSCOhost, PubMed, ScienceDirect, CINAHL, Scopus, and Google Scholar. All authors extracted data, summarized the exercise prescription into the relevant concept, and reported the results using a chart and writing a narrative synthesis. Most of the 15 sources that were reviewed reported that the combination of aerobic and strengthening exercise with moderate intensity was considered safe to be performed by individuals under COVID-19 recovery. Moderate intensity indicates effects in enhancing the immune system, preventing cardiorespiratory system problems, and improving the cardiometabolic system. From all kinds of exercises, moderate-intensity is strongly suggested undertaken following the TIDIER guidelines. Moderate-intensity exercise was proven to have positive and safe effects that are recommended for COVID-19 survivors. It is recommended to increase the frequency of exercise from 150-300 to 200-400 minutes per week, including strengthening exercises.
This experiment was conducted to compare the growth performance of silver barb fry produced from cryopreserved sperm with those produced from fresh sperm. Cryopreserved sperm used for fry production was preserved with three extenders, Alsever's solution, urea egg-yolk, egg-yolk citrate solution and one cryoprotectant, DMSO. Cryodiluents were prepared by mixing the cryoprotectants at 10% concentration of the extender (% v/v). Fry produced with fresh sperm was considered as control. For comparing the growth, 60 fry of 15 day-old for each treatment of both cryopreserved and control groups were stocked to glass aquarium (50 cm x 30 cm x 28 cm) and reared them for ten weeks. Growth of fry in terms of length and weight increment in both cryopreserved and control groups were measured weekly. The growth pattern was more or less similar for all the treatments and there was no significant difference (P>0.05) between them. The survival rate of fry produced from cryopreserved sperm was 82.3% and that from fresh sperm 88%, and there was no significant difference (P>0.05) between two groups. It is therefore, concluded that the use of cryopreserved sperm does not impair survival and growth of fry.
