RESUMOOs grupos de tratamento de dependentes de nicotina na rede pública de saúde vêm sendo utilizados nas estratégias de prevenção do tabagismo. Foram atendidas 47 pessoas com a mesma necessidade de abandonar o vício do cigarro em um Centro de atendimento Integral à Saúde (CAIS). Desse número, 76,6% mulheres e 23,4% homens, dos quais 80,8% participaram dos grupos. As sessões foram estruturadas a partir do Programa Nacional de Controle do Tabagismo "Deixando de Fumar sem Mistério", do Ministério da Saúde. Foi observado o grau de motivação dos participantes e os principais motivos de recaída, bem como as comorbidades psiquiátricas relacionadas ao uso do tabaco, apontando a importância de investigá-las no processo de tratamento do tabagismo. Das pessoas atendidas 31,9% deixaram de fumar e 17% reduziram a quantidade de cigarro, podendo assim afirmar que os grupos de tratamento de dependentes de nicotina ocorridos nessa instituição pública proporcionaram apoio ao comportamento de parar de fumar e na redução de danos para a saúde. PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVENTIONS ON TOBACCO CONTROL GROUPS:AN EXPERIENCE ACCOUNT ABSTRACT Nicotine addiction support groups in the public health system have been used as tobacco prevention strategies. Forty-seven people with the same necessity to quit tobacco addiction were cared at the Center for Health Integral Assistance (CHIA). From these, 76.6% women, and 23.4% men, out of which 80.8% took part in the groups. The sessions were structured based on the National Program for Tobacco Control -called "Deixando de Fumar sem Mistério", of the Brazilian Health Ministry. The motivation level of participants and the main reasons of relapse were observed, as well as the psychiatric comorbidities related to tobacco use, pointing out the importance of investigating them in the tobacco treatment process. About 31.9% of the people assisted quit smoking, and 17% reduced the amount of cigarettes, contributing to assert that treatment groups of people addicted to nicotine developed in this public institution provided support to the behavior of stop smoking and reduction of harm to health.
