Achieving performance is the premise of an organization’s existence on the market. Performance may be achieved by optimal administration of resources, in order to ensure not only short-term but also long-term efficacy. In this sense, performance and sustainability have common support. A sustainable enterprise is, implicitly, a performing enterprise. To be performing or to be able to support sustainable development implies the concern for simultaneous achievement of three categories of objectives: Economic-financial, social and environmental. Therefore, performance measurement requires a global vision of what the entity’s performance means. Thus, the present paper has the major objective of determining the global performance within industrial systems, by indicators that are mainly used to assess the sustainability aspects of the manufacturing systems. Indicators, such as manufacturing costs, quality of manufacturing, energy consumption, personal motivation, and safety, were correlated by an advanced multicriterial analysis. The created model presents the novelty that it provides a total score for performance, allowing to highlight risk areas and to set up improvement measures. The model is an important tool for optimizing the planning processes in order to reduce the consumption of energy, materials or water.
Abstract. Performance means achieving organizational objectives regardless of their nature and variety, and even overcoming them. Improving performance is one of the major goals of any company. Achieving the global performance means not only obtaining the economic performance, it is a must to take into account other functions like: function of quality, delivery, costs and even the employees satisfaction. This paper aims to improve the delivery performance of an industrial system due to their very low results. The delivery performance took into account all categories of performance indicators, such as on time delivery, backlog efficiency or transport efficiency. The research was focused on optimizing the delivery performance of the industrial system, using linear programming. Modeling the delivery function using linear programming led to obtaining precise quantities to be produced and delivered each month by the industrial system in order to minimize their transport cost, satisfying their customers orders and to control their stock. The optimization led to a substantial improvement in all four performance indicators that concern deliveries.
The decision is the focus of management activity since it was in all its functions, and more integration within the company environment depends on the quality of the decision. At the same time, the quality of decision has an important influence on cost reduction, efficient use of funds, profit growth, etc. Through this paper a short presentation of a sugar factory was prepared, also a SWOT analysis which revealed the strengths and weaknesses of the company, as well as possible strategies that may apply. Analysis outcomes revealed the problems of the enterprise, so we could present a possible measure to improve the activity by applying a multi-criteria analysis procedures. The case study of multi criteria analysis is focused on a management decision for improving production activity of the sugar factory.
Sustainable development can be defined in terms of three main components: ecologically sustainable, economically sustainable, and socially sustainable. Conflicting objectives are involved in sustainable development issues, of which the economic, environmental, and social objectives are the most important. Multi-criteria decision-making provides a systematic methodology that combines these conflicting objectives and can provide a rational compromise solution to complex decision-making issues. Using multi-objective optimization, this paper integrated three major objectives of organizational performance, maximizing sales, minimizing expenses, and maximizing productivity, all of which are combined for the sustainable development of the organization. All these conflicting problems were included in an objective function that allowed for solving the three objectives simultaneously and, thus, achieving economic, environmental, and social performance, in order to sustainably develop the organization. The input data included the objectives planned by the company regarding the turnover to be achieved, the production and delivery costs, and the productivity achieved by employees. Customer orders, production capacity, delivery costs, and resource consumption were also taken into account for optimization. With the help of multi-objective linear programming, the optimal number of parts produced and delivered by the company was determined so as to reach its economic, environmental, and social performance.
Abstract. Improving performance has become one of the critical issues for gaining competitive advantages for companies. Monitoring and improvement of the industrial systems' performance has become an increasingly complex task. In order to improve performance, companies have to implement a performance management system. This paper aims to analyze the performance management system within a multinational company. There will be analyzed the performance indicators monitored by the company and the models used to evaluate the performance. The aim of the study is to identify potential causes that led to getting poor performance; that will allow highlighting areas where goals were not achieved in order to apply the proper measures for improvement.
