In this paper, Covid-19 patients with self-immunity is incorporated in the Susceptible-Exposed-Infected-Quarantined-Recovered model is applied to describe the epidemiology of Covid-19 infection in Ghana. Based on data on the epidemiology of the Covid-19 infection in Ghana, we observed that, on an average, three persons contract the Covid-19 infection from an infected person daily based using the basic reproductive number ( ) derived from the SEIQR model. In addition, the threshold condition for the long term stability of the Covid-19 infection in Ghana is derived from this model. Based on the Dulac criterion, it was observed that for a long period of time the epidemiology of Covid-19 in Ghana will be under control. Again, we observed that both the transmission rate natural death rate of a person in the various classes mostly influence the spread of Covid-19 infection followed by the exposed rate from exposure class to the infected class, then the rate at which an infected person is quarantined and finally, the rate at an exposed person is quarantined. On the other hand, the rate at which an exposed person recovers from his/her have least influence on the spread of Covid-19 infection in the country. Nevertheless, the rates of birth, transmission of Covid-19 infection to a susceptible person, exposure to Covid-19 infection and Covid-19 patient who is quarantined by the facilities provided by the Ghana Health Service are in direct relationship with . However, the rates at which a quarantiner dies from a Covid-19 infection, an infected person dies from a Covid-19 infection, natural death from each class and the recoveries from an infected class, exposed class and quarantined class are in relationship with .
The use of social media and IT application tools as an alternative pedagogical approach in higher educational institutions of learning cannot be compromised. Considering their incalculable advantages especially, in these times of the COVID-19 pandemic where closure of schools characterised some of the mitigating factors which wedged pedagogy. Nonetheless, quite a few institutions have taken advantage of these technologically inclined resources to facilitate teaching and learning. Therefore, this study explores the perceived usage of social media outlets and IT application tools in the University of Cape Coast (UCC) as a means of pedagogy by the Academic Staff. The study employed a cross-sectional survey as result of which 102 Academic Staff were sampled. The findings disclosed that the use of social media (i.e., Twitter), online collaborative tool (i.e., Google Hangouts) as a means of pedagogy is conspicuously absent among the teaching staff. Whiles some IT application tools (i.e., Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive) were hardly used in the classroom context, although the participants revealed possessing the skills in the use of such social media outlets and the IT application tools at their individual level. However, the use of Presentation tools (i.e., Microsoft PowerPoint), Spreadsheets (i.e., Microsoft Excel) and Word Processing (i.e., Microsoft Word) were mostly used to facilitate teaching and learning. The study recommends the adoption and enforcement of these resources by the management of the university. Taking into cognizance, the numerical strength of the yearly enrollment of students into the University vis a viz its limited infrastructure.
<b>Purpose: </b>This study investigated the mediation and moderation effect of mathematics interest and teaching quality on the relationship between self-concept and mathematics achievement.<br /> <b>Design/methodology/approach</b>: The study was conducted at Sakafia Islamic Senior High School (SHS) and Kumasi Academy SHS in Ghana. A sample comprised of 300 students who offered general arts, general science, and home economics were randomly selected from a population of 1,200. The study adopted a descriptive survey and analysis such as exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, discriminant validity, and reliability analysis from Cronbach’s alpha was estimated using SPSS (version 23) and Amos (version 23).<br /> <b>Findings</b>: From the hypothesis, the findings revealed that self-concept partialy mediate mathematics achievement through mathematics interest and teaching quality also showed moderating effect between interest and achievement. The study also found out that self-concept, mathematics interest and teaching quality have direct effect on students’ performance.<br /> <b>Research limitations/implications</b>: The study investigated the moderation effect of teaching quality, which was found to be insignificant. This is an imperative for further study to critically analyzed it effect on other antecedents.<br /> <b>Practical implication: </b>The study informed teachers teaching mathematics and in other different programs to be equipped with knowledge of how students perceive mathematics so as to select the appropriate teaching approach to influence their interest and belief in the study of mathematics.<br /> <b>Originality/value: </b>There are studies by some researchers combining these variables under study with other factors to influence students’ performance however, little attention was on the effect mathematics interest and teaching quality to impact student performance through self-concept.
In this paper, we introduce a Finite Difference Fictitious Domain Wavelet Method (FDFDWM) for solving two dimensional (2D) linear elliptic partial differential equations (PDEs) with Dirichlet boundary conditions on regular geometric domain. The method reduces the 2D PDE into a 1D system of ordinary differential equations and applies a compactly supported wavelet to approximate the solution. The problem is embedded in a fictitious domain to aid the enforcement of the Dirichlet boundary conditions. We present numerical analysis and show that our method yields better approximation to the solution of the Dirichlet problem than traditional methods like the finite element and finite difference methods.
