Borax and formalin are wood preservatives, cleaning agents, antiseptics but are not intended for food. Based on data from BPOM, currently borax and formalin are used by some traders as food preservatives. The Problems faced by the community are: 1) there are food products that use borax and formaln, 2) people don’t know how to identify preservatives contained in food, 3) people don’t know the dangers of preservatives to health. The purpose of this activity are: 1) Giving education about the characteristics of foods containing borax and formalin, 2) training how to identify preservatives `such as borax and formalin using simple methods; 3) determine the percentage of samples containing borax and formalin. The methods used in carrying out this activity are: 1) survey, 2) preparation, 3) socialization, 4) training, 5) evaluation. The results obtained are increased public understanding of the characteristics of foods that contained by borax and formalin, increased skills in identifying borax and formalin using numerical paper and hibiscus paper. From 15 samples tested, there were 2 samples (13.3%) food contained by borax and 6 samples (40%) containing formalin. Permasalahan yang dihadapi masyarakat yaitu: 1) ada produk pangan yang menggunkan boraks dan formalin, 2) masyarakat belum mengetahui cara identifikasi bahan pengawet yang terdapat dalam makanan, 3) masyarakat belum mengetahui bahaya bahan pengawet terhadap kesehatan. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini yaitu:1) pemberian edukasi mengenai ciri-ciri makanan yang mengandung boraks dan formalin, 2) pelatihan mengidentifikasi bahan pengawet seperti boraks dan formalin dengan menggunakan simple methods; 3) mengetahui persentase sampel yang mengadung boraks dan formalin. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan ini yaitu: 1) survei, 2) persiapan, 3) sosialisasi, 4) pelatihan, 5) evaluasi. Hasil yang diperoleh yaitu meningkatnya pemahaman masyarakat mengenai ciri-ciri makanan yang mengandung boraks dan formalin, meningkatnya keterampilan mengidentifikasi boraks dan formalin dengan menggunakan kertas tumerik dan kertas bunga kembang sepatu. Dari 15 sampel yang di uji, terdapat 2 sampel (13,3%) makanan mengandung boraks dan 6 sampel (40%) mengandung formalin.Kata Kunci: Boraks, formalin, makanan
Biopolymers are polymers fabricated from natural polymers which are biodegradable, non-toxic and renewable. This research was aimed to synthesize and characterize biopolymer made from chitosan and pectin and was made to be a membrane cross-linked with glutaraldehyde and then characterized. The chitosan-pectin crosslinked glutaraldehyde polyelectrolite complex (PEC) and membrane can be used as a bioadsorbent for metal and cationic dyes. Firstly, PEC membrane chitosan-pectin crosslinked glutaraldehyde was synthesized by dissolving chitosan in acetic acid and pectin in distilled water and added with glutaraldehyde as a crosslinked agent, then heated at 70 °C. The amount of 1M NaOH solution was added for 12 hours and then cleaned with distilled water and dried at room temperature. Subsequently, the membrane was characterized with FTIR spectrophotometer, medium acidity test, and water uptake. The results of the characterization of PEC mebmbrane chitosan-pectin crosslinked glutaraldehyde with FTIR showed the interaction between –NH3+ of chitosan with –COO- group of pectin at a wavelength of 1604.77 cm-1. The medium acidity test showed that the PEC membrane chitosan-pectin crosslinked with glutaraldehyde was stable at pH 3-9 with water absorption of 266.67%, with the composition of chitosan-pectine membrane of 70:30 with 30% glutaraldehyde

Pembelajaran kimia merupakan salah satu pembelajaran yang memerlukan keterampilan dalam memecahkan masalah-masalah ilmu kimia berupa teori, konsep, hukum, dan fakta. Untuk menguasai suatu mata kuliah diperlukan berbagai sarana atau pun alat berupa bahan ajar guna mempermudah proses belajar mengajar, salah satu hal yang penting adalah modul ajar. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: 1) mengembangkan modul ajar kimia unsur berbasis inkuiri terbimbing pada mahasiswa pendidikan kimia , 2) menguji validitas dari modul kimia unsur yang dikembangkan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan yang dilakukan dengan menerapkan model pengembangan ADDIE tetapi hanya pada tahap pendefinisian, perancangan dan pengembangan modul ajar. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan instrumen validasi. Pengembangan modul ajar kimia unsur berbasis inkuiri terbimbing dalam pembelajaran kimia dapat meningkatkan keaktifan dan kemampuan yang dimiliki oleh peserta didik untuk mencari dan menyelesaikan permasalahan secara sistematis, logis, dan analitis pada mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Kimia.
Abstrak Perkembangan teknologi informasi yang semakin pesatnya telah melingkupi setiap elemen bidang ilmu termasuk dalam bidang pendidikan. Salah satu pemanfaatan teknologi informasi dalam bidang pendidikan yaitu pembuatan media pembelajaran atau bahan ajar elektronik dan atau interaktif. Selain model, pendekatan, dan metode pembelajaran yang diperlukan dalam proses pembelajaran, bahan ajar dan media pembelajaran juga diperlukan agar meningkatkan minat dan motivasi mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran. Permasalahan yang dihadapi mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran kimia lingkungan yaitu belum tersedianya bahan ajar yang dapat digunakan mahasiswa serta belum mempunyai kemampuan analisis untuk menghubungkan antara ilmu kimia yang diperoleh dengan permasalahan lingkungan disekitar. Oleh sebab itu, dalam penelitian ini dibuat modul kimia lingkungan dengan memanfaatkan aplikasi Kvisoft Flipbook maker untuk membuat modul elektronik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah membuat rancangan (desain) modul elektronik kimia lingkungan dengan pendekatan project based learning (PjBL). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif atau menggambarkan proses desain dari modul elektronik kimia lingkungan dengan pendekatan PjBL dengan menggunakan Kvisoft Flipbook Maker. Dalam desain modul elektronik ini menggunakan beberap fitur seperti corel draw untuk meningkatkan tampilan modul seperti cover dan desain kertas dengan menggunakan tema kemaritiman atau potensi lokal Provinsi Kepulauan Riau yaitu laut,dan gonggong, sedangkan untuk membuat modul elektronik digunakan dan Kvisoft Flipbook maker pro versi 4.0. One of the used of information technology in the education field was the created of learning media or electronic and or interactive teaching materials. In addition to the models, approaches, and learning methods needed in the learning processed, teaching materials and learning media were also needed to increase students' interest and motivation in learning. The problems experienced by students in the study of environmental chemistry were the unavailability of teaching materials that can be used by students and did not have the analytical ability to connect the chemistry obtained with the surrounding environmental problems. Therefore, in this research was made an environmental chemistry module by utilizing the Kvisoft Flipbook maker application to make electronic module. The aimed of this research was to design electronic environmental chemistry modules with a project based learning approach (PjBL). This research used descriptive methods or describes the design processed of the environmental chemistry electronic module with the PjBL approach used Kvisoft Flipbook Maker. In the design of this electronic module used features such as corel draw to improve the appearanced of modules such as paper cover and design using maritime themes or local potential of Riau Islands Province as the sea, and gonggong, while to make electronic modules used and Kvisoft Flipbook maker pro version 4.0.
