This paper reviews the literatureon beryllium, emphasizingthe effects of irradiationon essentialproperties. Swelling and embrittlement experimentsas a function of irradiationtemperatureand dose, and and as a function of neutron sp ztrum are described, and the resultsare quantified, where possible. Effects of impuritycontent are also reported, from which optimum compositionspecifications can be defined. Microstructural informationhas also been obtained to elucidatethe processescontrolling the propertychanges. The availableinformationindicatesthat berylliumdivertorscan be expected to embrittlequickly and may need frequent replacement.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
