The creep-rupture behaviour of steel X6 CrNi 18 ii (type AISI 304) is influenced by the presence of very pure liquid sodium at 550 C. Creep-rupture tests in a sodium loop have shown that the time-to-rupture is reduced in this liquid environment [1,2].This effect of liquid sodium has initiated a study of the creep and fatigue crack behaviour of this steel in the flowing liquid metal.Pre-cracked compact tension CT specimens of different sizes are used to study the influence of the liquid metal on the creep crack growth and the fatigue cracking behaviour.Int Journ of Fracture 32 (1986)
