A series of bisdiguanides has been prepared either by condensing one mol. of a biscyanoguanidine with two mols. of an amine hydrochloride, or by the converse interaction of two mols. of an N-arylcyanoguanidine with one of a diamine salt. One of the products, 1 : 6-di-(N5-p-chlorophenyl-N1-diguanido)hexane (chlorohexidine B.P.C.), has found practical use as an antibacterial agent.
The inhibitory effect, upon Gram-positive bacteria, of diethyl stilboestrol and hexoestrol has been confirmed but was not reversed by lecithin or cholesterol. Dienoestrol is also inhibitory, but its dibenzoate and dipropionate esters bre not.
The preparation is described of a series of sulphanilamide derivatives of pyrimidine by allowing p-nitro-, p-amino-or p-acetaddo-benzenesulphonylguanidine t o react with /I-diketones or b-ketocarboxylic esters.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
