In Central Greece during the first five years of high coverage with PCV13, serotype 3 was the only PCV13 serotype that clearly persisted in children with empyema.
PATIENT 1 (SECONDARY FORM)A 69-year-old woman with a painful fixed lump growing rapidly in the upper outer quadrant of her left breast presented to our hospital for investigation. She reported that when she was 22 years old she developed pulmonary tuberculosis manifested primarily as pleural effusion.Fine-needle aspiration cytology was consistent with granulomatous suppurative lesion. The culture grew Mycobacterium tuberculosis .
PATIENT 2 (PRIMARY FORM)A 38-year-old woman presented to our hospital because she noticed an increase in size of her right breast over the past few months. Clinical symptoms such as peau d'orange appearance and nipple retraction of the right breast were also present. In addition, she had enlarged, hard axillary and supraclavicular lymph nodes.Histologic examination of the lesion showed inflammatory infiltration by lymphocytes and plasmacytes. The culture grew M. tuberculosis .
