ABSTRACT The exploration of Shale, regardless of the method to be used in its extraction brings negative economic, social and environmental impacts. This paper seeks the theoretical basis and bibliographical justification that the exploration by FRAC or Fracking for shale gas extraction as a source of energy is a setback. A discussion is made between the literature and the consequences of this extraction method for the Municipality of Papanduva, located in Santa Catarina State -Brazil, in the economic, social and environmental spheres. As a result, it is understood that the extraction process is a setback and goes against clean and renewable technology investments and will bring an unprecedented legacy liability.
