El estudio tuvo como objetivo, conocer el comportamiento del salario mínimo, las realidades que acontecen y la desigualdad en su aplicación, a nivel global y de país. Como metodología se realizó la revisión bibliográfica en bases de datos de acceso abierto: EmeraldInsight, SciELO, Redalyc; y la consulta de políticas e informes de organismos internacionales y, legislaciones del gobierno ecuatoriano e investigaciones realizadas en Ecuador, por la importancia de establecer salarios mínimos acorde a las necesidades básicas y reales de cada contexto de país. Entre sus resultados se desatacan, la desigualdad de los salarios mínimos a nivel global y de país, así como las desigualdades salariales en cuanto al género, reconociéndose el salario mínimo como vital, para la satisfacción del trabajador y la de su familia, cabe desatacar que cada contexto es propio para el análisis y adecuación de los salarios mínimos acorde al equilibrio de la oferta y demanda. ABSTRACT The objective of the study was to know the behavior of the minimum wage, the realities that occur and the inequality in its application, at a global and country level. As a methodology, the literature review was carried out in open access databases: EmeraldInsight, SciELO, Redalyc; and the consultation of policies and reports of international organizations and, laws of the Ecuadorian government and research carried out in Ecuador, for the importance of establishing minimum wages according to the basic and real needs of each country context. Among its results, the inequality of minimum wages at a global and country level is highlighted, as well as gender inequalities, recognizing the minimum wage as vital, for the satisfaction of the worker and his family, it should be noted that Each context is appropriate for the analysis and adaptation of minimum wages according to the balance of supply and demand.
