The above mentioned emissions can be ascribed to that part of the molecule which is formed from the intermediate spin-delocalized triazenyl radical ( 5 ) in the recombination. The part arising from the p-tolylazo radical (6) apparently does not play any effective role in the polarization of CH3 protons, as we have been able t o show in o u r experiments with p-tolylazotriphenylinethane. These findings confirm the existence of arylazo radicals, e.g. ( 6 ) , which have already been formulated on many occasions as reactive intermediates 171 and support the idea of CIDNP in radical pair recombination in the solvent cage 14Cl.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
