The aim of this study is to examine the associations of perceived parenting, self-construal and psychological flourishing within a cross-cultural perspective. Instruments tapping into four types of perceived parenting style (psychological control, behavioural control, autonomous support, and responsiveness), positive and negative affect, relational self and flourishing were administered to a sample of 579 university students from France (n = 325) and Turkey (n = 324). Latent profile analysis (LPA) and ANOVA tests were performed. The results showed that French university students presented lower levels of positive affect, negative affect and psychological flourishing compared to Turkish university students. Differences were found between these two groups in terms of psychological and behavioural control, and their respective consequences on self-construal and psychological flourishing. Turkish parents present higher levels of psychological and behavioural control in their relationships with their children compared to French counterparts.
Adolescence is a developmentally intense and complex period. With this period, rapid changes can be observed in various development areas. Although the rapid changes experienced in adolescence are an important stage in the process of becoming an adult, the process of change experienced can cause problematic behavior patterns to emerge. One of these problematic behavior patterns is peer bullying. Adolescents who try to get to know themselves with adolescence can shape their self-perceptions by being a victim of bullying or by being bullied. The sum of the adolescent's self-perceptions is expressed as self-perception in the literature. With adolescence, the adolescent begins to recognize himself and to form a self-perception. This formation is affected by the social environment and experiences. Clearly revealing the adolescent's self-perceptions and the effect of peer bullying on the self are important for adolescent mental health and development during adolescence. For this reason, the aim of this study is to determine whether there is a relationship between peer bullying, which is an important problem in adolescence, and self-perception. For this purpose, relational screening model was used in the research. The universe of the research is the province of Malatya. The adolescent group of 411 people determined by the stratified sampling method from the research universe constitutes the research sample. According to the research findings, a low-level significant negative correlation was found between being a victim and a bully and self-perception in the process of peer bullying in adolescence. When the research findings are examined, it is revealed that peer bullying may cause negative effects on the self-perception of adolescents. In this respect, it can be said that peer bullying poses an important risk for the development of adolescents.
Peer bullying is a common form of behavior among adolescents. In peer bullying, adolescents attack their peers physically, socially, psychologically, etc. areas of violence. In this respect, bullying is an important behavioral problem among adolescents, which includes continuity, power imbalance, and deliberateness. Various studies show the prevalence of peer bullying in Turkey at different levels. The main purpose of this research is to examine the literature publications and reveal the prevalence of peer bullying in Turkey with the meta-analysis method. For this purpose, the meta-analysis method was used in this study. Five evaluation criteria were determined for the publications selected during the meta-analysis process. The research was carried out by selecting 3 theses and 2 articles that met the specified criteria from 75 publications published between 2015 and 2021. The total sample of the study consists of 8221 adolescents. The findings show that an adolescent in Turkey is exposed to peer bullying at least twice during the academic year and is bullied twice. In addition, it has been determined that some structural inconsistencies are arising from ethical committee permissions, evaluation methods of scales, and data processing processes in studies on peer bullying conducted in Turkey. Due to these inconsistencies, many publications could not be included in the meta-analysis process. These issues are detailed in the article and discussed following the literature.
