Compound VI, C22Hi6N2.-When 3 g. (0.02 mole) of phenylglyoxal hydrate and 3.8 g. (0.02 mole) of benzamidine hydrochloride in 300 ml. of water were boiled for three hours, a gummy substance formed which was filtered from the hot solution and recrystallized three times from ethyl alcohol. The colorless needles obtained melted at 170-172°. The yield was less than 1%.
