In this paper, a novel algorithm based on convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed to detect foreign object debris (FOD) based on optical imaging sensors. It contains two modules, the improved region proposal network (RPN) and spatial transformer network (STN) based CNN classifier. In the improved RPN, some extra select rules are designed and deployed to generate high quality candidates with fewer numbers. Moreover, the efficiency of CNN detector is significantly improved by introducing STN layer. Compared to faster R-CNN and single shot multiBox detector (SSD), the proposed algorithm achieves better result for FOD detection on airfield pavement in the experiment.
Abstract. We present a GPU-based implementation of visual saliency algorithm to detect foreign object debris(FOD) on airfield pavement with effectiveness and efficiency. Visual saliency algorithm is introduced in FOD detection for the first time. We improve the image signature algorithm to target at FOD detection in complex background of pavement. First, we make pooling operations in obtaining saliency map to improve recall rate. Then, connected component analysis is applied to filter candidate regions in saliency map to get the final targets in original image. Besides, we map the algorithm to GPU-based kernels and data structures. The parallel version of the algorithm is able to get the results with 23.5 times speedup. Experimental results elucidate that the proposed method is effective to detect FOD real-time.
As a basic task of computer vision, image similarity retrieval is facing the challenge of large-scale data and image copy attacks. This paper presents our 3rd place solution to the matching track of Image Similarity Challenge (ISC) 2021 organized by Facebook AI. We propose a multi-branch retrieval method of combining global descriptors and local descriptors to cover all attack cases. Specifically, we attempt many strategies to optimize global descriptors, including abundant data augmentations, selfsupervised learning with a single Transformer model, overlay detection preprocessing. Moreover, we introduce the robust SIFT feature and GPU Faiss for local retrieval which makes up for the shortcomings of the global retrieval. Finally, KNN-matching algorithm is used to judge the match and merge scores. We show some ablation experiments of our method, which reveals the complementary advantages of global and local features.
