Liquid Crystalline Hydroquinone Bis‐[trans‐4‐n‐Alkylcyclohexane]‐carboxylates The synthesis of methyl‐, ethyl‐, chloro‐, bromo‐, cyano‐ and methoxy‐substituted esters of hydroquinone 1–7 and their mesomorphic properties are described. The title substances exhibit a large range of mesophases and clearing points about 40–50°C higher than that of the analogous esters of benzoi cacids. 4‐Benzoyloxyphenyl trans‐4‐n‐alkylcyclohexanecarboxylates 8–11 show nematic properties.
