The purpose of this investigation was to find a rapid, sensitive, and reliable method for detecting toxic inorganic materials in water in time of emergency, when contamination was suspected. The method had to be sensitive at the toxic level of the contaminant so that it could be used as a warning alarm. The classical polarographic method appears to satisfy these requirements. This method involves electrolysis at controlled (but variable) potential at a dropping mercury electrode.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
