Two major formative elements are at the origin of the current regional organization of the Algerian territory : the industrial phenomenon and the policy of administrative revision of the wilayate. Up until 1980 the Algerian government set up productive activity in the big and middle-sized cities, for the most part located on the coastal strip, but the enormous industrial effort and the poor showing of other forms of activity resulted in a strongly polarized spatial organization. National and regional development, undertaken through administrative apportionment, set about to correct those distorsions. The results of that policy deserve analysis.
The phenomenon of inter-neighbourhood disparities is taking on worrying
proportions in the city of Boussa?da. The quantitative study of disparities
provides us with alarming figures on the social and spatial dimensions. Our
research has shown a negative correlation between the indices of residential
segregation and school success rates, specifically with a strong residential
segregation through the overcrowded peripheral neighbourhoods, and a low
level of school facilities. The study of inter-neighbourhood disparities in
the city of Boussa?da, affirmed a strong residential segregation with 0.780
as the value of the segregation index and ghettos evaluated at 6 on the
scale of Poulssen. The other result at the level of school facilities with
indices of zonal aptitude varying between 0.41 and 1.02 on the
neighbourhoods of ?Maitar and Sidi Slimane? on a scale of 0 to 5. These
figures are alarming for local authorities and require a search for social
diversity and a re-evaluation of the methods of decision making for the
allocation of school facilities based on socio-economic data and a level of
facilities comparable to a national average. Its objectives are the result
of combining social and spatial indicators in a square matrix by Saaty's AHP
(Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. It is in this complex urban context
that geographic information systems (GIS) can be used as a decision support
tool, with a dashboard that displays in real time the situation of the
different districts of the city, by means of disparity indices.
The green areas are considered as an integral part of the planning of the urban environment as they are an integral part of the city and include several important functional, aesthetic and environmental dimensions. Based on a methodology based on a descriptive analytical approach to produce recommendations that would achieve the objectives of this paper.
Thispaper studiesthe public outdoor spaces in social housing and the role ofdesign characteristics of the public spaces and their impacts on enhancing social interactions. However, since 1962, one may notice that Algeria has opted for social housing in its housing programmes to meet the growing demand; but social housing did not satisfy the residents’ needs as authorities focused on the quantity of residential neighborhoods, but they neglected designs of public spaces, which urged us to study them to see the extent to which the design characteristics of these spaces contribute to theachievement of social interactions between inhabitants. The research relies on the analytical approach by observing and analyzing the design characteristics of public spaces in social housing and their role in promoting social interactions in the neighborhood of 520 in M’sila, Algeria. A questionnaire form is addressed to the neighborhood residents to evaluate social interactions. The results of the study show dissatisfaction of the residents and the need to take into account the design characteristics during planning because of their importance in promoting social interactions
