Film festivals are highly important events and organizations that unite films, artists, cinema workers and the viewing audience. Attending a screening at a festival is different than going to the local cinema throughout our daily lives. Film festivals not only unite moviegoers, it also opens new doors for everyone interested in the art of film. Similarly, it facilitates the opportunity for the audience to meet directors, actors, screenwriters and everyone else participating in the production of films as well as the screening of films that previously had not been screened. It provides a platform of discussion for the viewers of common content. It allows prominent films in cinema history to be experienced within the atmosphere of a movie theatre. The contributions of film festivals to individuals, society, and the hosting city are not limited to these influences. This study attempts to determine the audience profile of the Eskisehir International Film Festival, which has been a recurring event for 18 years. In this regard, a survey was conducted between 6-14 May 2016 using random sampling. The 250 valid questionnaires obtained were analysed with the SPSS statistical software and the results were combined with the researchers' festival organisation experiences for interpretation. Additionally, a portrayal of the film festivals in Turkey in the year 2016 was established along with a meta-analysis of the publications regarding the influence of film festivals on the film industry and on society.
Cultural encounters caused by human mobility across national borders and the results of these encounters are among the current topics of discussions within the framework of globalization. An approach, which argues that globalization works in favor of capitalist countries, deals with the discussion in the context of cultural hegemony. This approach claims that "First World" cultures are always dominant over "Third World" cultures. On the other hand, another approach considers these encounters as an exchange process that paves the way for the emergence of new cultural forms. The second approach claims that cultural exchange processes result in hybrid forms. The cultural identities of filmmakers, their film production practices, and the issues they deal with in their films cause cinema to become an important sphere of cultural practice where these discussions gain visibility. Moreover, its competence in representing and conveying cultural identities also provides cinema with a feature of being a rich source of data, through which these discussions can be examined. The main purpose of this study is to reveal how cultural hybridization created by globalization affects production practice and narrative of film. In the study in which purposeful sampling method is used, a movie named La Graine Et Le Mulet (The Secret of The Grain/Balıklı Bulgur) by Abdellatif Kechiche, an immigrant filmmaker, is determined as the sample. The film is analyzed with case study method in terms of production practice and narrative. The findings obtained from the study reveal that the production practices of the film and the cultural aspects in its narrative involve remarkable hybrid qualities. However, especially the spoken language of the characters in the narrative and the way these characters are perceived by the members of the host country show that theses put forward within the framework of "cultural hegemony" phenomenon can also be valid.
A negative process started in Sino-USA relations after establishing the People's Republic of China (PRC), PRC made policies against the USA, which it accused of being imperialist. Tensions between China and the USA led to the presentation of the USA to the masses as an imperialist country and the national enemy of Chinese people in Chinese media. The study tried to reveal how the USA was presented to the masses and through which messages it was built as an enemy country in the context of imperialism in anti-US posters in China. For this purpose, 8 posters determined within the scope of the study were analyzed in the light of the German linguist Karl Bühler's Organon Model, using the semiotic analysis method. As a result of the study, it was claimed in the posters that the USA had imperialist goals and led to war to achieve these goals. For this reason, the message that the imperialist aims of the USA posed a threat to both China and world nations, and world nations must act against the USA in order to end the danger posed by the USA was given. Thus, the Chinese administration tried to legitimize the anti-USA policies implemented during the Cold War.
