Background: A peripheral intravenous cannula is an essential tool for delivering drugs, blood products, and nutritional fluids to patients intravenously. At least 90% of all patients who enter the medical environment for care have some form of intravenous therapy. Giving medications through an intravenous cannula can be complicated due to its association with serious infections.Aims of the study: The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention program on the practices of the nursing staff towards preventing peripheral intravenous cannula complications in Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital.Methodology: A quasi-experimental design was carried out at the medical and surgical departments of Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital for the period 22 \ December \ 2020 to 1 \ May \ 2021. A non-probability (purposive) sample of 60 nursing staff who worked in the surgical and medical departments was selected, and they were divided into two groups, the study group and the control group. The study sample consisted of (30) nurses who were exposed to the intervention program, while the control group consisted of (30) nurses were not exposed to the nursing interventional program. To measure the effectiveness of the intervention program on practices of the nursing staff, the researcher used a practice checklist that included (12) items related to preventing peripheral intravenous cannula complications. To analyze the results, descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (ANOVA, t-test) were used. Results: The pretest results showed that there was no significant difference between the study group and the control group (Mean of study group=1.25 versus Mean of control group=1.21) In the posttest, the results showed a significant improvement in the practices of the study group compared to the control group (Mean of study group=2.46 versus Mean of control group=1.28).Conclusion: The study concluded that the educational program has a positive effect on the nursing staff's practices regarding Prevention of Peripheral Intravenous Cannula Complications in Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital.Recommendations: The study recommended the necessity of activating the guidelines for peripheral intravenous cannulation in health institutions, and conducting future research to improve the knowledge and practices of the nursing staff about the prevention of complications of the peripheral intravenous cannula.
Aim of study: The aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness of an educational program on Nurses' Practices about the triage system in Emergency department of Qalat Salih Hospital Methodology: An experimental design was carried out at Qalat Salih general hospital  from 20 May, 2018 to 1 October, 2018. The program and instruments were constructed by the researcher for the purpose of the study. Random sample comprised of (60) nurses was divided into two groups, study group consisted of (30) nurses exposed to the nursing educational program and control group consisted of (30) nurses were not exposed to the program. The measurement of effectiveness of nursing educational program through the observational checklist includes (54) items are divided to seven main domain related to triage system in emergency department concerning nurses' practice. Reliability of instrument was determined through the use of test and retest and the instrument validity was determined through a panel of experts. The analysis of the data was used descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, mean score and standard deviation) and statistical inferential (student t- test and ANOVA) In order to find the differences between the study group and the control groupResults: The study findings indicated that there were highly significant differences between pre and posttests in the study group in overall main domains related to nurses' practicesConclusion: The study concluded that the effectiveness of educational program regarding nurses' practice concerning the triage system in emergency department of Qalat Salih Hospital is significance and there are large differences in pretest than posttest in improvement the nursing staff regard to program of the triage system. Recommendation: The nurses' staff can be encouraged and motivation for being participated in the special training programs and conference with the triage system specialists who have long experience in practices of the triage procedure to fulfill the nurses' needs related the triage system in their practices.  Keywords: nursing; education; program; practice; triage; system.
Background: The effect of physical exercise on hypothyroidism exists argumentative and require more ferrets. Poor knowledge of the patients with hypothyroidism regarding physical exercise and Activity Daily Livings (ADLs) can change in their lifestyle, deteriorate symptoms and complications. Objective: The main objective of the present research is to evaluate the effectiveness of an instructional program on hypothyroidism patients’ knowledge toward physical exercise and ADLs. Methodology: one group study (pretest– posttest) a pre experimental design study was used to conduct this study at Baghdad teaching hospitals from 2th March, 2021 to 30th Jun, 2021. A purposive sampling non probability was applied to select 50 patients with hypothyroidism were coming to Baghdad teaching hospitals. The validity of the questionnaire was verified by 20 experts. The reliability was determined the knowledge questionnaire by using (test and retest) approach. Statistics were used to analyze the results of the study using (SPSS) version (22). Results: Statistically significant differences found between the scores of the patients’ knowledge in two levels of measurements (pre- test and post-test) at (p<0.01), where the statistical global mean of score (GMS) for knowledge of patients regarding the physical exercise in pre-test was (0.195), while GMS . becomes (0.880) in post-test. Furthermore, there is no relationship among age, gender and level of education variables and hypothyroidism patients’ knowledge toward physical exercise and ADLs at (p>0.05) in pre and posttest.
Background: Oral care is vital nursing action for intubated patients that aims to reduce the mortality and morbidity among intensive care unit patients by preventing Ventilator-associated pneumonia.Aims of the study: The study aimed to assess the nursing staff's knowledge toward oral care of intubated patients before and after the implementing the educational program.Methodology: A pre-experimental (one-group pre\post-test) design is used to conduct this study which was in the period 22 \ December \ 2020 to 2 \ May \ 2021. The non-probability (purposive) sampling is used to select the study sample that composed of (27) nursing staff working in the ICU in Al-Diwaniya Teaching Hospital. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher constructed the study instruments consisting of the educational program and the knowledge questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of two parts: the first part related to the demographic characteristics of the nursing staff participating in the study, and the second part which consisted of (25) multiple-choice questions distributed on (4) domains to assess the knowledge of the nursing staff towards the oral care of the intubated patients. To analyze the results, descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (ANOVA, t-test) were used. Results: The study showed that there are significant differences between nurses' knowledge scores in the post-test when compared to their scores in the pre-test (M=.082 in the pre-test, while in the post-test, M=.093). The study also showed there is a significant relationship only between nursing staffs' knowledge and their level of education. Conclusion: The study concluded that the educational program has a positive effect on the nursing staffs' knowledge regarding oral care for intubated patients in Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital.Recommendations: The study recommended the necessity of using the oral care protocol in the intensive care units and urged the nursing staff to participate in educational and training courses on oral care in intensive care units.
