The Deuteration of Hydrocarbons by Heterogeneous Catalysis in a Counter-current ColumnSummary A counter-current method for the perdeuteration of liquid hydrocarbons by heterogeneously catalysed isotope exchange with deuterium gals is described. The efficiency of the column which was developed for this purpose has been investigated and optimised as a function of the experimental variables. The limits of the applicability of this method are discussed.
3rd Communicationl) Sunzmary. The kinematic viscosity of mixtures of perdeuteriated and protiated heptane has been measured between 15" and 35" and is given in polynomial form as a function of concentration and temperature. Using the McAZZister equation to describe viscosity [4], it can be shown that the interactions between molecules containing the same or different isotopic species differ slightly.
The molar volumes of mixtures of perdeuteriated and protiated heptane have been measured between ‐10° and 40° and expressed as a second order polynomial of the weight fraction. The difference in molar volumes of about 0.4 ml/mol decreases with temperature. The possibility of using the density measurement to determine the degree of deuteriation of mixtures of partially deuteriated heptanes was examined. The percent deuteriation calculated by this method deviates systematically from the true values.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
