This study was done to get a better understanding of the role the tolak bala ritual plays in Malay society nowadays. The tolak bala ritual (warn off misfortune) is a type of cultural treatment to seek protection from misfortune from God. Despite modernization and technology, the tolak bala ritual has become endangered in Malay society as a cultural value. Serdang district lost the tolak bala ritual. A qualitative descriptive research design was used to see how Malay faiths have changed since they were implemented. This study shows how the Tolak Bala Ritual isn't just a healing treatment that uses spells and prayers, but it's also a way to package medicines for sale.
The partner of the service activity is the Tambar Malem Group which is engaged in the business of Karo traditional herbs for traditional medicinal ingredients. The Tambar Malem group which consists of housewives to date still producing traditional Karo ingredients . Mitra is located in Bahorok District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra Province. Partner problems in the field of production. In production still use simple tools and manuals so the amount of production is still small. The implementation method uses education and counseling,focus group discussions, ,accompaniment, evaluation. This research aimed at describe the tradition of the Javanese traditional community wedding ceremony at Huta III Bandar Jawa, Bandar Subdistrict, Simalungun Regency. This research used descriptive qualitative approach. The results of the research were carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation. This research found that the Javanese traditional wedding tradition in Huta III generally consists of eleven processions, namely 1) peningsetan, 2) saserahan, 3) pasangtarub or tratag, 4) malamlamaran, 5) kerik-an, 6) ijabkabul, 7) temumanten, 8) lemparsirih, 9) injaktelur (wijidadi), 10) sungkeman, 11) tepungtawar and marhaban. The tradition of Javanese traditional ceremonies in Huta III is not the same as the wedding traditions in Central Java, there are several traditions or processions that have been abandoned. Not only that, the Javanese traditional wedding tradition in Huta III has now experienced a combination or acculturation of the surrounding culture, one of the acculturations of the Malay culture which has now been adopted or carried out by the Javanese people of Huta III in the Javanese traditional wedding procession.
The diversity of ethnic groups in Indonesia gives rise to many cultures, traditions and local wisdom that live and develop in society. Culture itself is divided into several sectors that support various kinds of community life. Local wisdom in North Sumatra has many types and also diversity. And this research was conducted to see the shift in cultural values and local traditions in the lives of people in North Sumatra. This study uses data analysis with a qualitative descriptive method. This method is an analysis that tries to provide a picture based on the facts obtained in the field. These data are of course supported by primary and secondary data to support this research process. This qualitative research is presented with a description and also assisted with the calculation of numbers, percentages obtained in the process of collecting and analyzing data. These data were analyzed by means of descriptive. Concept development, data collection and facts regarding shifts in cultural values and local traditions in the lives of the people of North Sumatra, underwent a process in this globalization era. And this research shows that there is a shift in values in culture and traditions as well as local wisdom in North Sumatra which certainly has an impact on shifts in the community environment.
