The study aims to develop an assessment model of Sundanese language speaking skills for junior high school students in West Java, Indonesia. This test model is expected to provide an effective assessment program, which includes contents, scope, delivery format, and time. A design-based research was adopted to produce a model of class-based Sundanese language and literature learning assessment via several tryouts, interviews, and expert judgment. Findings of this study show that the developed Sundanese Speaking Test Model (SSTM) fits the criteria of a good test in terms of clarity of instruction, clarity of test materials and assessment, use of communicative and standardized language, and use of correct varieties of spoken language. Statistical calculations of field tryout scores show that the assessment model was relevant to field data, indicating that the model is fit and worth using as an assessment instrument of Sundanese speaking skills of junior secondary school students as supported by theoretical concepts and expert judgment. Results of judgment by experts, users, and practitioners also show that the SSTM is reliable for use as an instrument for assessing students’ speaking skills at the middle school level.
Culture and citizenship literacy is one of the basic literacy recommended by the World Economic Forum (2015) to be comprehended by all citizens of the world. It is intended for each individual to possess both life skills and sense of responsibility to contribute in developing the world community. Moreover, for heterogeneous Indonesia, understanding cultural diversity and awareness of citizenship is undeniably necessary in maintaining the unity and integrity of the Republic of Indonesia. Descriptively, this paper explores culture and citizenship literacy in Sundanese children's literature which has been handed down for generations both in families and in schools, so that through these efforts, the inheritance of literary traditions has been carried since the early childhood. This paper reveals literacy activities as an effort to provide cultural sensitivity and citizenship awareness especially for Sundanese children through literary works.
An understanding of ecology or the environment has been implanted since centuries ago in the traditions of the Sundanese community, among others, traditional expressions that were recorded in the tradition of ancient text writing. This finding show that Sundanese ancestors have a high concern with environmental sustainability and its balance. This paper examines information dissemination and understanding of environmental interactions based on local culture, especially Sundanese culture. Through the description of oral expressions, it will lead to the environmental tradition of literacy in which it has been carried out for generations along with the values contained. The findings reveal that inspirational community, especially the millennial, emulates and contributes to maintain the ecosystem based on local wisdom.
