ABSTRACT Aims and objectives: To evaluate the effect of Sodium ascorbate, Alpha-tocoferol and Beta-carotene vitamins antioxidant on reversing the bond strength between resin composite and bleached enamel surface. Materials and methods: The study focussed on use of three vitamin antioxidants. All the groups in the study were subjected to bleaching containing 35% Hydrogen peroxide. Resin restoration were done after 1 week and immediately after bleaching without any antioxidant in Group 1 and 2 respectively. While in Group 3, 4 and 5, following bleaching treatment, samples were exposed to Beta-carotene gel, Sodium Ascorbate solution and Alpha-tocoferol gel respectively for 10 minutes, before resin restoration was done. Specimens were then subjected to Universal Testing Machine. The results were statistically analysed using ANOVA test and Tukey Honest Significant Difference (HSD) test, to comparatively analyse statistical differences between the groups. Results: The mean shear bond strength values of Group 4 (Sodium Ascorbate solution) showed significantly high bond strengths than Groups 3 (Beta-carotene gel) and 5 (Alpha-tocoferol gel). Conclusion: Treatment of bleached enamel with Sodium ascorbate and Alpha tocoferol antioxidants has significantly improved the shear bond strength of composite resin to enamel. One of the principle topics for contemporary dentistry is to re-establish patient lost dental esthetic appearance.To re-establish patient's lost dental esthetic appearance is one of the most important topics for contemporary dentistry. New treatment materials and methods have been discovered and introduced in market in order to gain this aim. Conservative and esthetic approaches, such as direct and indirect laminate veneer restorations, instead of full-ceramic crowns for anterior are preferred by most Dentist's where esthetics is really important.To correct existing abnormalities, esthetic deficiencies and discolorations, laminate veneers are used. They are processed in two different ways: direct or indirect. Direct laminate veneers are based on the principle of application of a composite material directly to the prepared tooth surface in the dental clinic. Indirect laminate veneers may be produced from composite materials or porcelain, which are cemented to the tooth with an adhesive resin. In this case report Indirect ceramic laminate veneers were used to enhance the esthetic appearance of the young patient.
Tooth resorption results from injuries to or irritation of the periodontal ligament and/or pulp. It may arise as a sequalae of traumatic luxation injuries, orthodontic tooth movement, or chronic infections of the pulp or periodontal structures. In extensive traumatic injuries, healing does not take place by the adjacent vital cells and the bone can establish a contact with the root surface, making the tooth an essential part of the bone remodelling system. This phenomenon is termed as dento-alveolar ankylosis. Resorption can occur without any further stimulation and this activity involves osteoclastic resorption dependent on parathyroid-hormone-generated resorption and bacterial invasion. Such teeth elicit a high metallic sound on percussion; on continuous resorptive attacks, the teeth become infra-occluded. Successful management of resorption cannot always be a predicted. However, an experimental approach to manage the initial stage of inflammatory response is to decrease the formation of clastic cells, and to induce repair of damaged root surfaces by cementoblasts. The purpose of this case report wass to review this entity, to discuss factors that influence the occurrence of resorption, and to describe appropriate treatment. A case of external replacement resorption is presented, illustrating previous root canal therapy. After a meticulous diagnosis, a stringent treatment plan was executed. A nonsurgical endodontic therapy was performed with the use of calcium hydroxide as an intracanal medicament. 2% chlorhexidine was used as a final irrigant. A 3-months followup radiograph revealed adequate control of replacement resorption and the tooth was obturated. Subsequent followup showed a perceptible halt in the dento-alveolar ankylosis.
Aim and objective This study aims to compare the resistance to fracture in maxillary incisors which were fractured in two different oblique patterns and then were re-attached and reinforced using anatomic fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) post. Materials and methods Sixty extracted and intact human maxillary incisors were obtained and divided into two groups (A and B; n = 30). “Labiopalatal” and “palatolabial” fractures were induced in group A and group B, respectively. These two groups were further subdivided into two subgroups ( n = 15). In subgroup I Ribbond fiber (Ribbond Inc., Seattle, WA, USA) and in subgroup II Everstick post (everStick Post™, GC Corporation, Tokyo, Japan) were used. Fractured fragments were re-attached using resin and tested for fracture resistance in universal testing machine. Statistical analysis was done with ANOVA one-way test and post hoc test. Results The labiopalatal fracture pattern of group A showed significantly increased resistance to fracture than the palatolabial fracture pattern of group B in both the subgroups. Similarly, subgroup II with Everstick post exhibited significantly higher fracture resistance than subgroup I with Ribbond in both groups A and B ( p value < 0.05). Clinical significance The study simulates a clinical scenario of coronal fracture of a tooth and focuses on the techniques and materials which can be used for successful management of such cases.
