Smart Grid (SG) systems involves large Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure integrated with the power grid system to allow bidirectional flows of information, for effectiveness and to provide economic and sustainable processes that facilitates constant electricity supplies. As a result of open IoT used in smart grid infrastructure, electricity generation and distribution information are getting more vulnerable to online threats. The need to find effective and mitigating measures to the vulnerability and threats in the systems. As broadband network moves from 4G to 5G networks with its attendant advantages, smart grid interoperability will require a well-structured security strategy to avert cyber-attacks and ensure grid security. Cyber-attack issues are critical factors that need to be understood and mitigating techniques developed to ensure the smooth running of smart grid systems. Research has shown that severe vulnerabilities in the implementation of the smart meter pose a threat to grid infrastructure, as such, it is only when these issues are resolved that we can have a sustainable and realistic smart grid technology. This study addressed these concerns by developing a conceptual model for the mitigation of security vulnerabilities in IoT-based smart grid electric energy distribution systems.
DC motor as an electric machine have been applied in numerous control systems. However, a critical parameter of interest that must be evaluated in designing a DC motor based system is the damping constant of the rotor. This paper analytically examines how to determine the damping constant of the rotor of a 12V DC motor, with the determination based on the following parameters: Armature resistance (R a), inductance (La), Capacitance, the Stall current and the Angular rate of excitation of the motor with varying armature excitation of the current. These parameters help to ascertain the maximum and the minimum operating limit of the motor so as not to exceed the boundary-operating limits of the 12V motor. Experiments were performed in the laboratory and at the end of the analysis, the result shows that the value of damping constant of a 12V DC motor was-3.317 10-4 N-m-sec 2. This parameter can be factored in future control system designs.
Abstract-properties of Silicon Carbide Junction Field EffectTransistor (SiC JFET) such as high switching speed, low forward voltage drop and high temperature operation have attracted the interest of power electronic researchers and technologists, who for many years developed devices based on Silicon (Si). A number of power system Engineers have made efforts to develop more robust equipment including circuits or modules with higher power density. However, it was realized that several available power semiconductor devices were approaching theoretical limits offered by Si material with respect to capability to block high voltage, provide low on-state voltage drop and switch at high frequencies. This paper presents an overview of the current applications of SiC JFET in circuits such as inverters, rectifiers and amplifiers. Other areas of application reviewed include; usage of the SiC JFET in pulse signal circuits and boost converters. Efforts directed toward mitigating the observed increase in electromagnetic interference were also discussed. It also presented some areas for further research, such as having more applications of SiC JFET in harsh, high temperature environment. More work is needed with regards to SiC JFET drivers so as to ensure stable and reliable operation, and reduction in the prices of SiC JFETs through mass production by industries.
This paper evaluates the relationship between non-smart phone users among socially disadvantaged youths such as the ones found in IDPs and Almajiris in northern Nigeria and the chance of being radicalized into violent extremist groups. Employing cognitive and rational choice theory as the overarching frameworks, we sought to inquire the extent of radicalization among socially disadvantage youths, the process involved in the recruitment process, as well as the motivation behind the influx of youth into violent extremist groups. We highlight the implication of radicalized youth to the society and propose a de-radicalization framework that can be adopted to mitigate violent extremism.
In Nigeria, a crucial responsibility of the executive arms of the government is to submit annual budgetary allocations to the national assembly for approval. Due to the diversity and complexity of the budget, the national assembly is mandated to carry out its constitutional duty of scrutinizing the budget to discover irregularity or anomaly, make recommendations, or substantial modification upon what it received. This is very challenging, particularly in Nigeria where there are many different ethnicities and regional, to ensure inclusiveness, the national assembly must carry out its constitutional duty diligently and carefully without fear or favor that often has unintended consequences. This might not be very easy to accomplish within a short period. Thus, this research aims at detecting an anomaly in the budget that will ease the legislative duty thereby facilitating the process of appropriation. The concept of Clustering for Machine learning technique was used for the detection of an anomaly, where the detected ones are noted and indicated for critical examination.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
