Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) was intensified to produce bubbles as dynamic templates for the preparation of foamed porous copper (FPCu) in acidic cupric electrolyte. The macroscopic morphologies of FPCu, including pore size distribution and pore density, were determined by the bubble diameter. Bubble assemble behavior was the most important in overall process of gas evolution. Growth of hydrogen bubbles caused coalescence of bubbles and resulted in size increment of the templates. Furthermore, bubble behavior was in tight relation with residence time and current density. Results showed that the morphologies were dependent on deposition time and current density. Small pores in FPCu were attributed to the un-coalesced bubbles and large pores were ascribed to the coalesced bubbles. The embedding and nesting of small holes by the large ones contributed to the formation of hierarchical porous framework. A “stack up layers” model was proposed to illuminate the morphological transformation of FPCu from two-dimensional structure to 3-dimensional framework. Understanding of this model facilitated the preparation of macroporous copper with favorable morphologies.
Fine and large particles flowing through a bend in a pipe move differently and therefore erode the pipe differently. This paper simulates solid–liquid two-phase flow containing large particles in a bend and analyses the relationship between the wear formation and particle motion. Wear experiments are carried out using 3-mm glass bead particles at a mass concentration of 1–15%. At the same time, the flow field and the motion of the granular system are obtained in computational fluid dynamics–discrete element method simulation. The wear formation mechanism is revealed by comparing experiments with numerical simulations. The wear rate of the wall surface increases with the mass concentration, while the marginal growth rate decreases as the mass concentration increases. As the mass concentration increases to a certain value, the degree of wear reaches a maximum and remains unchanged subsequently because of the formation of a particle barrier along the bend wall. The particles near the wall region will bounce forward because of the periodic disturbance flow around particles. The impact of mass bouncing particles causes the formation of the erosion ripple on the test sheet.
As an important power facility for transmission corridors, automatic three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the pylon plays an important role in the development of smart grid. In this study, a novel three-dimensional reconstruction method using airborne LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) point cloud is developed and tested. First, a principal component analysis (PCA) algorithm is performed for pylon redirection based on the structural feature of the upper part of a pylon. Then, based on the structural similarity of a pylon, a pylon is divided into three parts that are inverted triangular pyramid lower structures, quadrangular frustum pyramid middle structures, and complex upper or lateral structures. The reconstruction of the inverted triangular pyramid structures and quadrangular frustum pyramid structures is based on prior knowledge and a data-driven strategy, where the 2D alpha shape algorithm is used to obtain contour points and 2D linear fitting is carried out based on the random sample consensus (RANSAC) method. Complex structures’ reconstruction is based on the priori abstract template structure and a data-driven strategy, where the abstract template structure is used to determine the topological relationship among corner points and the image processing method is used to extract corner points of the abstract template structure. The main advantages in the proposed method include: (1) Improving the accuracy of the pylon decomposition method through introducing a new feature to identify segmentation positions; (2) performing the internal structure of quadrangular frustum pyramids reconstruction; (3) establishing the abstract template structure and using image processing methods to improve computational efficiency of pylon reconstruction. Eight types of pylons are tested in this study, and the average error of pylon reconstruction is 0.32 m and the average of computational time is 0.8 s. These results provide evidence that the pylon reconstruction method developed in this study has high accuracy, efficiency, and applicability.
