Estuda-se a situação histérico-cultural na determinação da enfermidade psíquica com realce da epilepsia e faz-se considerações em tôrno da saúde e doença como conceitos culturais. Finalmente, analisa-se uma entrevista com paciente epiléptica nos seus aspectos sócio-culturais à luz da psicodinâmica. Em uma das conclusões indica-se a necessidade de esclarecer a comunidade quanto à epilepsia, a fim de ajudar a população a aceitar e compreender o enfêrmo epiléptico.
The author reviews the historical and cultural situation in the determination of mental disease focusing epilepsy, making considerations on health and disease as cultural concepts. Finally, the author analyses an interview with an epileptic patient considering social and cultural aspects as viewed by psychedynamics. One of the conclusions refers to the need of enlightening the community regarding epilepsy so that the population may accept and understand the epileptic patient
