Human error is a serious concern in manufacturing industries. It affects product error and liability and even leads to workplace injuries or fatalities. Malaysia has recorded a worrying figure of workplace accidents and injuries. In 2018 alone, there were more than 2700 workplace accidents which led to disabilities and death. A workplace accident would result in a no-win situation for a company. Manufacturing sectors in Malaysia make the highest claims from the total cost of accidents and injuries. The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) in Malaysia also imposes a fine for companies who breach safety and health regulations in the workplace. Inspections are carried out to ensure that manufacturers obey the rules of occupational safety and health (OSH), and fined for being errant employers. However, these penalisations are often due to the negligence and lack of awareness among employers and employees. Hence, it is of interest for researchers to identify the root causes of human error among manufacturing industries in Malaysia. This review highlights the common causes of workplace accidents and injuries in manufacturing through observation. Several well-known human error models since 1983 are also investigated. The potential outcome of this review is to improve OSH awareness among manufacturers for a more sustainable future in their business, employment, and social well-being.
The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted to virtual learning been implemented as a new norm of learning. Teachers must be able to interact with students using different sources in order to create new learning experience using virtual learning. The main discussion aims to recognise the impact of teaching and learning in introducing virtual learning to students. The problems some teachers and students face include too much workload or online assignment, technology dependent, vague instructions and de-professionalism. The impact of teaching and learning were measured using a framework created by Danielson for teaching and learning which are planning and preparation, classroom environment, instructions and professional responsibilities. The framework will guide teachers to identify their responsibilities and help students improve learning. An online survey was conducted among 41 lecturers using convenience sampling technique. The suggestions given were based on T.E.A.M. concept which consists of transmissions of knowledge and effective framework, establish teachers and students' improvements, assess students in learning and maintain professional development. The key finding of this paper is the impact of implementing T.E.A.M. framework towards the effectiveness of virtual learning.
Background: The Covid-19 pandemic has imposed adaption to virtual learning for students and educators across all levels of education in the world. The effectiveness of virtual learning varies amongst age groups. It has been suggested that the adoption of virtual learning will continue to be implemented even after pandemic, particularly in higher education. Therefore, it is crucial to validate the effectiveness of a virtual learning approach among university students to ensure a smooth transition from a conventional education model to a hybrid education model. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the impact of virtual learning on students’ performance in a virtual classroom. Methods: We analysed survey data collected from undergraduate students at Multimedia University, Malaysia. Convenience sampling and self-administered online surveys were used to understand the impact of virtual learning. Multiple regression analysis was performed using SPSS software Results: A total of 210 first and second year degree and diploma students responded to the online surveys. Factors affecting virtual learning were segregated into three categories: virtual teaching techniques, technology issues, and environment distraction. Respondents stated that the critical factor that affect the effectiveness of virtual learning and impacts on students’ performance was the virtual teaching techniques employed by educators. Conclusions: This study concluded that virtual teaching techniques have significant impact on students’ performance whereas technology issues and environment distraction do not significantly influence students’ performance during virtual learning. Although this study is limited to students from Multimedia University, it lays the groundwork for future research to involve students from other universities or other countries. A future study can address more factors that affect virtual learning and students’ performance, such as students’ attitude and motivation.
Traditionally, everyone uses notes and coins or even credit cards and cheques for all business transactions, resulting in several problems such as inconvenience, inefficiency, and ineffectiveness. The limitation of traditional payment may cause delay in payment, high risk of theft, and fraud transaction. To reduce these problems, an e-wallet is introduced, and it helps to reduce fraud as the data stored in the mobile wallet are encrypted. An owner can reduce the limit and receive notification on any transaction. During the global pandemic, consumers are forced to follow the restriction of movement. Stores in Malaysia are closed, and consumers begin to buy things online aggressively. This study aims to determine the factors that affect the use of e-wallet among Gen-Y during the Global Pandemic using PLS-Sem analysis. Snowball sampling was used to gather 181 respondents via online surveys. This study adopted four variables, i.e., perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, benefits to users, and trust. Of them, two (perceived usefulness and trust) are supported.
