This paper discussed the application of virtual reality technology and its application on prevention of coal and gas outburst in coal mine. With the help of virtual reality technology, the vivid and process of coal and gas outburst in coal mine could be obtained. The application of virtual reality technology on prevention of coal and gas outburst included development such as system requirements, data preparation and organization, the configuration for virtual reality software and the custom of the client are discussed. The study and development of virtual reality technology were much important to relieve the catastrophic accident. The problems existing in prevention of coal and gas outburst was pointed out and corresponding countermeasures were put forward.
