Although potassium ozonide can be synthesized at room temperature, it is extremely difficult to retain it in a pure form. Upon contact with water vapor, it tends to decompose partially to KOH and KG2. This instability is the main reason why several attempts to grow single crystals have been unsuccessful so far, so that any investigation of the structure must be undertaken by the powder method of X-ray crystallography.
