Nitrite is one of important food additive that used as a preservative and curing agent for the meat product. Since the adverse effect of nitrites to the human health has been reported, the government regulated maximum allowable nitrite content in meat product is 125 mg/kg. Hence, continuous monitoring of the existence of nitrite, especially in the meat products are important to conducted. Quantitative analysis of nitrite in the meat product, especially sausage has been described. The spectrophotometric measurement of the nitrite contents was conducted by using Griess method. The absorbance of both standard solution and sample carried after 30 minutes at the maximum wavelength 520 nm. A linier calibration curve was obtained in the range of 0.1-0.5 ppm, with the R2 value is 0.997. Subsequently, the method was applied to determine the nitrit contents in sausage samples. The spectrophotometric determination showed there were 6 samples have nitrite contents more than maximum allowable nitrite content in the meat product.
Final Waste Disposal Area at Suwung, Denpasar is one of the final waste disposal area that uses an open dumping system for the waste management techniques. These waste management techniques cause the lack of the groundwater quality. On the other hand, this groundwater is still being used as a main water source by the residents around the final waste disposal area. The aim of the study was to determine of the lead concentration in the well water at the Suwung Waste Disposal Area. This research uses descriptive method with observational approach while the analysis of lead was conducted by using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). Based on the results, it is proved that there is 1 sample contains of the lead concentration more than maximum allowable of lead according to the Minister of Health of Indonesia No. 416/MENKES/PER/IX/1990. The excess of lead concentration in the water samples may influenced by the distance of the dug wells from waste disposal area which does not meet the requirements, so the pollution occur easily.Keywords: Final waste disposal area, lead determination, atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS)
Tempat Pembuangan Akhir (TPA) Sampah Suwung merupakan salah satu TPA di wilayah Kota Denpasar yang masih menggunakan sistem open dumping dalam teknik pengolahan sampah. Hal ini sangat berpengaruh terhadap kualitas air tanah di sekitarnya, sedangkan diketahui bahwa penduduk sekitar TPA masih memanfaatkan air sumur gali sebagai sumber air utama. Salah satu jenis polutan berbahaya yang terkandung dalam sumber air di wilayah TPA adalah logam berat. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kadar timbal (Pb) pada air sumur gali di TPA Suwung dengan metode deskriptif menggunakan pendekatan observasional sedangkan pemeriksaan kadar timbal dilakukan dengan metode spektrofotometri serapan atom (SSA). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa kandungan timbal dalam sampel air sumur gali bervariasi antara 0,0060 mg/L hingga 0,1023 mg/L. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut diketahui bahwa terdapat sampel yang memiliki kandungan timbal melebihi ambang batas maksimum yang diijinkan oleh Permenkes RI No. 416/MENKES/PER/IX/1990. Tingginya kadar timbal ini kemungkinan dipengaruhi oleh jarak sumur gali dari TPA yang tidak memenuhi syarat sehingga mempermudah terjadinya pencemaran. Selain timbal, terdapat beberapa parameter lain yang dianalisis dalam penelitian ini antara lain kekeruhan, warna dan suhu sampel.
Motorcycle drivers have a high risk of exposure from motor vehicle exhaust such as sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). Exhaust from vehicle exhaust can affect the concentration of hemoglobin especially carbon monoxide can increase the concentration of hemoglobin. In addition to motor vehicle fumes, hemoglobin levels are also affected by age, sex, smoking habits, pregnancy, malnutrition (iron, folate, vitamin B12, vitamin A), acute and chronic inflammation, parasitic infections and congenital diseases. <p><span>Garlic is one of the herbs that widely used by people to cure the disease, which caused by a bacterial infection. Garlic contains <em>Allicin</em> which has an antibacterial effect on <em>Salmonella typhi</em>. Several studies have been proved that garlic has antibacterial activity against the growth of microbes. This research was conducted to study the potential effect of the garlic juice inhibitory on the growth of <em>Salmonella typhi </em>bacteria. This research was used experimental post-test only control design and disc diffusion method with MHA media. This study was carried out by using four different concentration there were 20, 40, 60 and 80%. The negative and positive control was used sterile aqua dest and chloramphenicol. The inhibition zone was determined by observing the clear zone around the disk. The result of the data analysis using the Least Significant Difference (LSD) showed that there was a significant difference between each concentration of the garlic juice. The obtained results proved that garlic juice affects the inhibition zone of <em>Salmonella typhi</em> growth. The largest inhibitory zone was found at the concentration of 80% with the diameter inhibition zone was 23 mm. This diameter inhibitory zone was classified as a very strong inhibitory effect category. These results concluded that there was a linear correlation between inhibitory potential with the concentration of garlic juice. </span></p>
