The terminal carboxylic g r o u p of a variety of polyesters being derivated from several saturated and unsaturated dicarboxylic acids have been determined by means of the method of potentiometric titration with a solution of sodium alcoholate. I n order to avoid hydrolysis of the esters during this operation, however, the use of closed vessels and of dry solvents was performed strictly,The estimation of the carboxylic contents even down to 0,15y0, depending on the type of the ester and the kind of apparatus used here, was successfull. The tolerance was found to be f 3%. Supposing any chain of a polyester possesses both, one carboxylic and one hydroxyl group, a content of 0,15 yo of carboxylic groups is corresponding to a molecular weight of 30000.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
