Writing is often claimed as the most difficult and complex skill to be mastered by students. Moreover, compared to the other skills, writing is more thoughtful. In order to produce a good writing, the students-writer needs a sufficient guidance from the teacher (lecturer). Providing feedback to students' writing is one the way to help students become a good writer. This article aimed at exploring lecturers' beliefs, lecturers' practices and the possibility of the shifted of their beliefs regarding the provision of written corrective feedback on students' writing. The participants of this study were three lecturers of English Education Department of an Islamic State University of Lampung, Indonesia who taught writing. Interviews and document analysis were employed in collecting the data. Thematic analysis was used in analysing the data. The findings have shown that most of lecturers' practices are incongruent with their beliefs. Moreover, the result of interview after some teaching practices has shown that their beliefs transform by the time. Pengabdian pada masyarakat ini terlaksana berdasarkan hasil pengamatan terhadap para guru Bahasa Inggris di Kota Bengkulu yang dianggap masih menggunakan cara manual dalam menulis sitasi dan referensi. Sehingga perlu adanya pelatihan penggunaan aplikasi Mendeley sebagai salah satu perangkat pengelola referensi yang membantu guru bekerja dengan lebih efektif dan efisien dalam menulis karya ilmiah. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah agar guru memiliki pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam menggunakan aplikasi Mendeley untuk mengelola sitasi dan referensi. Dalam pelaksanaannya, kegiatan ini dilakukan dalam tiga tahapan yang sistematis yaitu: ceramah materi pelatihan, praktik penggunaan aplikasi dan evaluasi. Kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini melibatkan beberapa instansi pendidikan pada jenjang Sekolah Menengah Atas/Kejuruan di Kota Bengkulu. Visi yang sama menjadikan adanya keterkaitan langsung antara instansi tempat pelaksanaan kegiatan dan tim pelaksana kegiatan. Metode survey digunakan untuk mengevaluasi hasil kegiatan dengan cara mendistribusikan kuesioner kepada seluruh peserta pelatihan sebelum dan setelah mengikuti kegiatan. Hasil survey menunjukkan bahwa terjadi peningkatkan yang signifikan pada pemahaman peserta pelatihan tentang penggunaan aplikasi Mendeley dalam pengelolaan sitasi dan referensi karya ilmiah. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa kegiatan ini memberikan manfaat dan dampak positif bagi peserta.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the lexical errors which was produced by google translate in translating “Putri Serindang Bulan” short story to English language as the target language. This study was conducted by using descriptive design with qualitatitive approach, which was done with consideration that the purpose of this research to analyze the lexical errors which produced by google translate in translating “Putri Serindang Bulan” short story to English language as the target language. This study was focused on describing the types of lexical errors produced by google translation in translating “Putri Serindang Bulan” short story to English language. In this research, the writer became the main instrument. This study obtained the data by reading “Putri Serindang Bulan” short story to understand the information of the short story, translating the “Putri Serindang Bulan” short story into English language use google translate, and then comparing the source text with the translation result to find out the translation accuracy and make the terms that were considered as inaccurate translation. The result showed that many errors were produced by google translate in translating the short story, the most frequent error found were incorrect word and missing word. In conclusion, this study suggest that the human translators must revise the translation result from machine translation.
Grammar has an important role to build a communication process, it is used to make a clear statement about the time of a verb occurs. This research is aimed to find out grammatical errors in terms of tense, active, and passive voice abstracts in translation of abtracts from Indonesian language to English produced by Google Translate. Descriptive qualitative method was used as the research method in this research. The population of this study was twenty abstracts that were taken from the University of Bengkulu’s Repository. The instruments that was used to collect the data were documentations and checklists. Keshavarzʼs (1999) theory was applied to analyze the data. From the data analysis it was found that tense was the most dominant error produced by Google Translate. Meanwhile, the active and passive voices error were rarely found. It can be inferred that as a tool, Google Translate cannot identify the tense of the sentences being translated. This is possible because tenses are closely related to the context of which the time a verb in a sentence happens, which can only be analyzed and understood by humans
This research was purposed to find out the syntactic translation errors from source language (Bahasa Indonesia) to target language (English) in communication students’ abstract of Universitas Bengkulu. The method that used by the researcher in this research was qualitative method along with content analysis approach. The error sources of translation were classified as morphological, lexical and syntactic error based on Sager’s theory. However, this research focused on the abstracts in thesis which made and translated by the communication students who’s graduated on 2019. The researcher found out that there were 52 syntactic errors occurred in 7 abstracts which became the object of this research
