Globalization perspective considers the world as a large market, which requires the resources readiness as capital to be able to participate actively. Local culture is an important capital to create identity and social harmonization in constructing a better quality of life. In the 15th–16th century AD, the Java north coast of Indonesia was known for having several old towns with their important roles in spreading Islam. Centuries later the legend of Walisanga still greatly influences the people’s lives particularly in Demak. The Muslim community is living tradition in this area has become one of the identity of the city. The development in the last decades has shown significant impacts on the tourism sector. This phenomenon showed that there would be conflicts of interests between social-cultural sectors and economic sectors. In this kind of situation, the community must adapt spatial settings to accommodate their needs. The purpose of this article is to find the concept of spatial setting formed by economic, cultural and religious factors in this historical area. The locus is the Muslim settlements in Kadilangu Demak a site of Sunan Kalijaga’s heritage. This study that employed qualitative research methods, the three spatial concepts proposed are: (1) the identity space of local culture is strongly exists (2) the shift in the value of space, which has changed from the glory of the noble family tothe common people (3) the space for morality control, which functions as the control of community’s moral. The third concepts are local genius, which is significantly potential for tourism.
This research was conducted to examine dynamic space formation using urban space converts from housing to Small and Medium-size Enterprise (SME) commercial space in the street corridors of major cities in Indonesia. The study is necessary due to the rapid increase in population, observed to be affecting the urban socio-economic and physical aspects as evident with the sporadic growth of small and medium businesses in potential locations of urban street corridors where many plots of land for residential space have converted for commercial activities. The driving factors include business climate change, global economic crisis, democratic development, and decentralization of the economic sector. In depth field research was conducted concerning the changes in space use in Bendungan Hilir area of Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta as a sample. Deductive thinking with purposive strata area sampling and natural settings without manipulating the subjects studied were applied as the methods. Meanwhile, data were collected quantitatively and qualitatively from one collector street corridor in the residential area observed to have shifted and changed to an SME commercial area. The results, therefore, showed a dynamic pattern of commercial activity leading to a "spatial democracy" pattern.
Bandung is one of the main tourist destinations inIndonesia. The city has many pull factors for visitors. Since 2014, the city of Bandung has done many improvements in various places such as making thematic parks, improving it's town square, etc. This affects the development of tourism in Bandung. So far, design concept of tourism in Indonesia has not been design for disabled people, or people with special needs even though tourism is a right for everyone. Friendly tourism for people with disabilities will be able to provide facilities and accessibility for everyone with different needs and characteristics. This study aims to find out to what extent tourism management can provide facilities and accessibilities for disabled people and the extent to which the application of universal design principles is applied to the building. The inspection method used is an applied research using quantitative descriptive approach to collect data. Data collected is analyzed by using guidelines from No.30/PRT/M/2006 under regulations by Ministry of Public Works, and Smithsonian Guidelines for Accessible Exhibition Design..
Environmental deterioration which is increasing the area’s vulnerability occured in the Area of Jatibarang Dam in Semarang City. The deterioration is caused by the construction of the Dam. It is worsening the sustainability, disturbing the harmony of the flora & fauna especially the macaca (long-tailed monkey) lost their food and access to the hill , the main area of theirs ; and then due to be a tourism destination area, the development of the surrounding have gradually demolished the landscape and worsening the ecosystem. Therefore, the Dam Area requires an increased capacity to face the deterioration. It needs to be well designed to achieve a state of area that is resistant to deterioration. To form a resilient area, resilient ways are required. The purpose of this research is to find an innovative concept of resilience ways to actualize the sustainability of The Area of Jatibarang Dam in Semarang City through resilience design. The research uses descriptive analysis method based on the 4 factors of : spatial arrangement, technology innovation, disaster mitigation, and disaster adaptation. The results of the research found the integration of : 1. the enhancement of the adaptive capacity of society (local wisdom of tradition & spiritual heritage), 2. the implementation of orderly spatial management through green architecture and 3. a dynamic and planned urban systems which promote the access for all to actualize a resilient and sustainable area, would be the effective resilient ways to promote the Resilience Design of the Dam Area.
This study aims to analyze the Waisai district in terms of spatial aspects, as an attempt to respond to tourism potential in Raja Ampat with descriptive qualitative methods using a built and architectural environment design approach responding to natural potential. The study successfully concluded that the Waisai District lacked tourism magnets that could attract tourists and support the Raja Ampat tourism sector, and recommended the revitalization of the tourism potential of Waisai city, such as beaches, pedestrian ways, and city parks, hence Raja Ampat can be known for not only its magnificent sea, but also the Waisai’s central business district (CBD).
