Excited states in the odd-odd nuclei '2".'3"La have been investigated to high spin using y-ray spectroscopy. Two distinct bands are seen, one based on a Jrhll,z@vhlli2 structure and the other on a nhll,2@vg,i2 configuration. Backbends are observed in both configurations for both nuclei and the nature of the particles responsible can be conclusively proved. Experimental variation in the energy-level signature splitting and B(Ml)/B(E2) ratios will be discussed in terms of the polarising effects of the odd proton and odd neutron on the soft collective core. The results will be discussed in terms of the cranked shell model, odd-odd particle-rotor calculations and total Routhian surface calculations. They will also be compared to neighbouring odd and odd-odd systems.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
