To increase the performance of a photovoltaic (PV) system, a circuit using MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) technology must be used. There are several algorithms proposed in the literature and they need to be compared to select the best performing MPPT technology for a specific application or to make recommendations for future MPPT research. This article presents a benchmarking the most widely used MPPT algorithms, namely the “INC_C” (Classical Incremental Conductance), the “INC_AM” (Modified Adaptive Incremental Conductance). The comparative study presented in this work will confirm that “INC_AM≫ is the best MPPT technique to improve the efficiency of a PV system.
A maximum power point track (MPPT) circuit should be used to improve and maximize photovoltaic (PV) power production. Different algorithms are proposed in the literature, and it is imperative to compare them in order to identify which MPPT approach is best for a specific application or to provide recommendations for future MPPT research. This article presents a benchmarking of the most widely used MPPT algorithms, such as the perturbation and observe classic (POC), the perturbation and improved adaptive observer (POAM), the perturbation and observe modified (POM) as well as the combination of the POM and POAM algorithms called PAMM. The comparative study presented in this work will confirm that the PAMM is the best MPPT technic to improve the performance of a PV system.
A photovoltaic (PV) system uses solar radiation and converts it into electrical energy. An energy management system consisting of a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) charge controller is then necessary. In the present work, for the optimization of the electrical energy delivered by the solar PV panel we will compare four types of controls explained below, namely "MPPT-P&OM", "MPPT-IncM", "MPPT-PI-P&OC" and "MPPT-FOPI-P&OC". Based on these comparisons, for different values of solar irradiance, the four methods seem to perform quite similarly; all four are fast and show small oscillations around the optimal value; nevertheless, the MPPT-IncM method performs slightly better than the others. This is due to the fact that it is slightly faster and has fewer oscillations. The simulation is implemented numerically using the MATLAB/Simulink development tool.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
