In recent years, preparation of youth for their future profession and the job search process have become the leading topics in social sciences and an inevitable segment of a number of European policies in the field of education. The goal of our research was to obtain a more comprehensive insight into the ways in which pedagogy students perceive their preparation for the future profession and the opportunities for finding a job in their field of study. The sample comprised fifty-three third- and fourth-year students from the Department of Pedagogy of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. For the purposes of the research, a questionnaire with open-ended questions was constructed. Since our study is explorative in nature, we opted for qualitative analysis of the collected material. Research findings indicate that the majority of students predominantly believe that the acquired knowledge and skills are insufficiently usable in future professional work. Such beliefs lead towards the feeling of low competence for performing the future professional role. It was established that students use the “usual” methods for job search. However, the choice of these activities is not various enough, which consequently reduces the chances of pedagogy students to find employment. Negative perceptions of one’s own preparation for future profession point out to the necessity of a more efficient preparation of pedagogy students for their future job through establishing cooperation between institutions in the field of high education, research centres and world of labour. Key words: pedagogy students, personal meanings, high education, professional competences and the job search process
The paper presents the results of investigations on the characteristics of relations and values in children family education considering traditionalism and modernism respectively. The investigations were carried out in 2003 in Belgrade comprising the sample of 173 parents of primary school sixth graders. The investigations were conducted by the poll technique. Traditionalism and modernism, respectively, in relations and values were integrally examined using indicators as follows: authority distribution in a family, parental general care of a child, parent expectations of children of different gender with regard to doing housework, educational achievement and characteristics they consider desirable for males and females respectively. The biggest move from traditionalism to modernism was noted in the sphere of authority distribution in a family. As for parental general care of a child and their expectations in the three separated domains, there are signs of intensive abandon of traditionalistic positions. On the whole, concerning relations and values in children family education, the majority of examined families are in transition from traditionalism to modernism. Also, the results demonstrate that parent education level and level of urban character of a setting where parents grew up largely determine the type of relations and values parents will give priority to in children family education
This mixed methods research was aimed to explore relationship between the human resource development activities and the commitment of employees. In the research, we applied explanatory sequential design using nested samples for the quantitative and qualitative components of the study to foster deeper understandings of these relationships. In the quantitative component, data were obtained with scales, and analyzed from 609 employees in different companies in Serbia, while for qualitative component semi-structured interviews were conducted with 29 respondents from the same sample. The collected data were subjected (in the first component) to a few common (frequencies, std. deviation, means, etc.) and more complex statistical proceedings (canonical correlation analysis), and in the second component were subjected to the qualitative content analysis. The quantitative results indicate complex interaction of affective, continuance, and normative components of organizational commitment with different human resource development activities, while the qualitative data revealed deeper meaning of these connections. 1
