Digitalization, robotization, artificial intelligence, and all kinds of new technologies that are known as Industry 4.0 or the fourth industrial revolution have great influence on the future of work because they will gather new jobs with new skills, and a majority of the senior workforce will probably have a lot of problems with those kinds of changes and challenges. The major objective of the paper is to recognize the dependence of the unemployment of the age category 55–64 upon selected explanatory variables. The explanatory variables were selected, and the expectations of their signs were presented in the research design. The secondary data of Eurostat and OECD 2015 has been used, covering the twenty-two member countries of the European Union (the countries that provided minimum wage were included only). The econometric analysis, specifically model specification and model quantification were the main methods used in the paper. The main outcomes and relevance of the model as well as its limitations have been compared with the findings of other authors in the discussion and implications for further research.
The purpose of this paper is to study how clustering affects the results of operations of small and medium hospitality enterprises (SMHEs) in Croatia and to support SMHEs tend to cluster, forming critical masses in one place, to take advantage of synergies such as increased productivity, a higher pace of innovation and in essence the possibility of becoming more competitive. What are clusters and in what way do they increase business performance and the competitiveness are frequently asked questions. The paper presents the results of the impact of clustering in SMHEs in the Republic of Croatia on business performance. The special focus is given to financial and non-financial indicators that are significant for measuring business performance in SMHEs. The methodology of research includes a literature search of clustering in hospitality enterprises research, collection of data directly from managers of SMHEs and from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, analysis of the financial and non-financial data of 72 SMHEs in the Republic of Croatia. The research takes a longitudinal approach, examining SMHEs that are in clusters in Croatia over a two-year period as well as a control group of non-clustered SMHEs for comparison. The emphasis is on seeking to establish the impact of clustering on business performance. In this paper, the impact of clustering of 72 SMHEs involved in the study is discussed. The research has shown that the advantages of clustering in SMHEs have not been utilised in Croatia. The originality of this research is based on the fact that it refers to an area that has not been explored enough in the Republic of Croatia.
This chapter focuses on the UNESCO World Heritage city of Dubrovnik (Croatia) as an example of an urban cultural tourism development. In promoting the application of a sustainable development model for the better management of cultural sites, incorporating the views of local people is advocated. It is reported that the major challenge for city authorities in preserving and managing historical sites within the Old City is a lack of appropriate funding; however, networks of cultural and tourism institutions are emerging to interpret and present the cultural heritage of the Old City. It is suggested in this instance that seasonality of tourism demand is a further challenge for the city authorities in creating a sustainable cultural tourism product, as is the over-emphasis on city centre sites to the neglect of more peripheral cultural elements.
AbstractThis paper studies the protected cultural property strategic management conducted by UNESCO, the World Heritage Sites (WHS). Its purpose is to explore the measure to which the system of such cultural property management is developed, since its meaning goes beyond the touristic purpose and indicates the world’s cultural property. Two Croatian tourist destinations are examined – Dubrovnik and Poreč. At the end of the paper, a comparative analysis of the two investigated cases is presented with the aim of presenting the research results and designing a personal model and conceptual frame of action to create a more efficient management system for protected heritage at all levels
