Thin films of copper oxides were prepared by reactive magnetron sputtering and structural, morphological, chemical, and electronic properties were analyzed using x-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, in situ photoelectron spectroscopy, and electrical resistance measurements. The deposition conditions for preparation of Cu(I)-oxide (Cu 2 O) are identified. In addition, the interface formation between Cu 2 O and Sn-doped In 2 O 3 (ITO) was studied by stepwise deposition of Cu 2 O onto ITO and vice versa. A type II (staggered) band alignment with a valence band offset DE VB ¼ 2.1-2.6 eV depending on interface preparation is observed. The band alignment explains the nonrectifying behavior of p-Cu 2 O/n-ITO junctions, which have been investigated for thin film solar cells. V

The energy band alignment at interfaces between different materials is a key factor, which determines the function of electronic devices. While the energy band alignment of conventional semiconductors is quite well understood, systematic experimental studies on oxides are still missing. This work presents an extensive study on the intrinsic energy band alignment of a wide range of functional oxides using photoelectron spectroscopy with in‐situ sample preparation. The studied materials have particular technological importance in diverse fields as solar cells, piezotronics, multiferroics, photo‐electrochemistry and oxide electronics. Particular efforts have been made to verify the validity of transitivity, in order to confirm the intrinsic nature of the obtained band alignment and to understand the underlying principles. Valence band offsets up to 1.6 eV are observed. The large variation of valence band maximum energy can be explained by the different orbital contributions to the density of states in the valence band. The framework provided by this work enables the general understanding and prediction of energy band alignment at oxide interfaces, and furthermore the tailoring of energy level matching for charge transfer in functional oxides. The aim of the method is to replace successive Fourier syntheses by a treatment in which the two discontinuous decisions of the Fourier method (determination of peaks and assignment of weights of either zero or one to them) is replaced by two more cautious continuous processes. This procedure has been fully automated and its application to hypothetical test structures and to two three-dimensional structures is reported.

In this paper methods and results of three-dimensional electron microscopy of individual molecules will be presented. Part I describes the general experimental and theoretical methods (microgoniometer, measuring scheme, two-dimensional and three-dimensional reconstruction, determination of the common origin of the projections). Special attention will be given to the image point shapes under different reconstruction conditions

The direct use of an advanced binder‐free additive manufacturing technique, namely laser powder bed fusion (L‐PBF), does not easily allow obtaining variously shaped, fully dense Nd–Fe–B magnets with high coercivity. The process inherently leads to the re‐melting of the powder and appearance/disappearance of undesired/desired microstructural features responsible for low and large coercivity. In this work, the development of a useful microstructure responsible for high coercivity in Pr21Fe73.5Cu2B3.5 and Nd21Fe73.5Cu2B3.5 alloys and a possible way to produce fully dense permanent magnets via additive manufacturing processes is demonstrated using: (i) suction casting technique, which provides a high cooling rate and thus similar microstructures as in L‐PBF but requires only very small amounts of powder; (ii) conventional L‐PBF processing using kg of powder, and (iii) a subsequent annealing treatment that is similar to a conventional sintering treatment. The subsequent heat treatment is necessary to develop high coercivity by forming a novel microstructure: hard magnetic (Nd,Pr)2Fe14B grains embedded in a matrix of intermetallic (Nd,Pr)6Fe13Cu phase. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that Pr21Fe73.5Cu2B3.5 exhibits a higher coercivity than Nd21Fe73.5Cu2B3.5 because of a finer and more homogeneous grain size distribution of the Pr2Fe14B phase. The final L‐PBF printed Pr21Fe73.5Cu2B3.5 samples provide a coercivity of 0.75 T.
