1992 stereochemistry stereochemistry (general, optical resolution) O 0030 18 -058 (S,S)-Bis-p-Tolylsulfinylmethane and Carbonyl Compounds: Reactivity and Asymmetric Induction. -The chiral bis(p-tolylsulfinyl)methane (I) is coupled with the aldehydes (II) in the presence of butyllithium to form the carbinols ( III). The reaction is highly diastereoselective only with the aromatic aldehydes (IIc) -(IIf).
