Abstract. The work presents the status of works over the gas exploration from unconventional accumulations in Poland as of the 4 th of January 2016. Both the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of waste generated during the exploration for hydrocarbons from unconventional accumulations (data for the years 2010-2014) are presented in the paper. Due to the high content of water and the consistency of waste as well as its changeable and hard-to-predict chemical composition, the waste is difficult to manage. Possible manners of the management of drilling waste connected with the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons from unconventional accumulations in Poland and logistic al challenges related to it are also discussed in the paper.
Abstract. Extractive waste is produced at all stages of mining activities during preparatory and operational works as well as in processes of mechanical processing of coal. In a significant part it comprises a fullvalue commercial product or a material for the land reclamation. Because of considerable amounts of waste generated by the coal extractive and processing industry, legal, technical, ecological and social aspects related to the possibilities of management of stored materials have been analyzed in the article.
Abstract. The issue of recovery and disposal of hazardous waste is not a new concern. The waste comes from various processes and technologies and therefore the bigger emphasis should be placed on reducing quantities of generated hazardous waste (which is often connected with changes in the technology of manufacturing a given product) and limitation of their negative influence on natural environment. Plants specializing in waste processing processes should meet the so-called cardinal triad of conditions deciding on the full success of investment, and namely: economic effectiveness, ecological efficiency and social acceptance. The structure of generation of hazardous waste in EU
Abstract. In the paper the main threats to the environment arising from works related to the exploration of gas from unconventional sources have been discussed. The influence of exploration works on the atmosphere (the emission of gases to the atmosphere as a result of fuel combustion, the emission of noise by drilling equipment) has been explained. Threats to the hydrological balance associated with the intake of water for performing the process of fracturing have been discussed. Legal regulations connected with waste management, water resource management and protected areas (Nature 2000) have been presented.
