This paper describes the first attempt of hardware implementation of Multistream Compression (MSC) algorithm. The algorithm is transformed to series of Finite State Machines with Datapath using Register-Transfer methodology. Those state machines are then implemented in VHDL to selected FPGA platform. The algorithm utilizes a special tree data structure, called MSC tree. For storage purpose of the MSC tree a Left Tree Representation is introduced. Due to parallelism, the algorithm uses multiple port access to SDRAM memory.
Abstract:Most of the traditional clustering algorithms are poor for clustering more complex structures other than the convex spherical sample space. In the past few years, several spectral clustering algorithms were proposed to cluster arbitrarily shaped data in various real applications. However, spectral clustering relies on the dataset where each cluster is approximately well separated to a certain extent. In the case that the cluster has an obvious inflection point within a non-convex space, the spectral clustering algorithm would mistakenly recognize one cluster to be different clusters. In this paper, we propose a novel spectral clustering algorithm called HSC combined with hierarchical method, which obviates the disadvantage of the spectral clustering by not using the misleading information of the noisy neighboring data points. The simple clustering procedure is applied to eliminate the misleading information, and thus the HSC algorithm could cluster both convex shaped data and arbitrarily shaped data more efficiently and accurately. The experiments on both synthetic data sets and real data sets show that HSC outperforms other popular clustering algorithms. Furthermore, we observed that HSC can also be used for the estimation of the number of clusters.
The paper presents a novel control technique for a phase-shifted PWM (PS-PWM) soft-switching dc-dc converter. The converter is a full bridge dc-dc converter with controlled output rectifier and an active snubber on the secondary side. To solve the problems with nonlinear nature of the dc-dc converter a fuzzy logic control is used. The fuzzy logic controller design and simulation is presented. The performance of the designed fuzzy logic controller is compared to classical PI controller.
The paper presents the study of an anti-lock braking system (ABS) that has been complemented by a fuzzy controller. The fuzzy controller was used to improve the braking performance of the vehicle, particularly in critical situations, for example, when braking a vehicle on wet road. The controller for the ABS was designed in the MATLAB/Simulink program. The designed controller was simulated on a medium-size vehicle model. During testing, three braking systems were simulated on the vehicle model. We compared the performance of a braking system without an ABS, a system with a threshold-based conventional ABS, and a braking system with the proposed ABS with a fuzzy controller. These three braking systems were simulation tested during braking the vehicle on a dry straight road and on a road with combined road adhesion. A maneuverability test was conducted, where the vehicle had to avoid an obstacle while braking. The results of each test are provided at the end of the paper.
