This article argues that the historical understanding of emotions, seen as cultural constructs, is a necessary though limited research program. Without detriment to the contribution that cultural history has made to the historical study of the emotional experiences of the past, this article attempts to go beyond the limits of contextual research and approach the relationship between emotions and social change following the independent research program developed by Peter N. Stearns and William M. Reddy.

To this end I have identified and quantified the various forms of social capital that emerge from the social actors linked to a horticultural productive system. I conclude that the relations of cooperation and trust, the level of organization, and the informal institutions are expressions of social capital that, in their synergistic state, make it possible to advance common objectives within a productive system and take the shape of an index
