The development of Econophysics is studied from the perspective of scientific communication networks. Papers in Econophysics published from 1992 to 2003 are collected. Then a weighted and directed network of scientific communication, including collaboration, citation and personal discussion, is constructed. Its static geometrical properties, including degree distribution, weight distribution, weight per degree, and betweenness centrality, give a nice overall description of the research works. The way we introduced here to measure the weight of connections can be used as a general one to construct weighted network.
Human migration is responsible for forming modern civilization and has had an important influence on the development of various countries. There are many issues worth researching, and "the reason to move" is the most basic one. The concept of migration cost in the classical self-selection theory, which was introduced by Roy and Borjas, is useful. However, migration cost cannot address global migration because of the limitations of deterministic and bilateral choice. Following the idea of migration cost, this paper developed a new probabilistic multilateral migration model by introducing the Boltzmann factor from statistical physics. After characterizing the underlying mechanism or driving force of human mobility, we reveal some interesting facts that have provided a deeper understanding of international migration, such as the negative correlation between migration costs for emigrants and immigrants and a global classification with clear regional and economic characteristics, based on clustering of migration cost vectors. In addition, we deconstruct the migration barriers using regression analysis and find that the influencing factors are complicated but can be partly (12.5%) described by several macro indexes, such as the GDP growth of the destination country, the GNI per capita and the HDI of both the source and destination countries.In this globalization wave, the scale and diversity of international migration are increasing sustainably Considering immigrants as the research object, much work has been performed in this field. Researchers have discussed the social and economic influence of migration on the origin and destination countries. Generally, the migration of skilled workers benefits destination countries, but the effect on the origin countries is controversial. Some researchers hold that migration is harmful to the origin countries [7][8][9][10] . However, other researchers have identified the potential benefits of brain drain or brain gain [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19] . Although different opinions exist, most studies have acknowledged the importance of migration flows to both the origin and destination countries. Other works have focused on the complex effective factors of human migration. However, most studies use qualitative analyses without quantification. This is because migration is a complex field of research that includes topics from a wide range of fields, such as development, trade, fiscal studies, demography, policy, and human resources 20 . So far, the quantitative analysis and estimation of the factors affecting migration patterns have remained on the research frontier. People are the most important factors of economy and the primary carriers of social culture. Cross-border migration brings economic and cultural impacts to the origin and destination and is also a key to reflect the international relations of related countries. In fact, the migration relationships of countries are complex and multilateral, but most traditional migration models are bilateral. Network theories could provide a better description of global migration to show the structure and statistical characteristics more clearly. Based on the estimated migration data and disparity filter algorithm, the networks describing the global multilateral migration relationships have been extracted among 200 countries over fifty years. The results show that the global migration networks during 1960–2015 exhibit a clustering and disassortative feature, implying globalized and multipolarized changes of migration during these years. The networks were embed into a Poincaré disk, yielding a typical and hierarchical “core-periphery” structure, which is associated with angular density distribution, and has been used to describe the “multicentering” trend since 1990s. Analysis on correlation and evolution of communities indicates the stability of most communities, yet some structural changes still exist since 1990s, which reflect that the important historical events are contributable to regional and even global migration patterns.
Although much empirical evidence has demonstrated that p53 plays a key role in tumor suppression, the dynamics and function of the regulatory network centered on p53 have not yet been fully understood. Here, we develop a Boolean network model to reproduce the two-phase dynamics of the p53 network in response to DNA damage. In particular, we map the fates of cells into two types of Boolean attractors, and we find that the apoptosis attractor does not exist for minor DNA damage, reflecting that the cell is reparable. As the amount of DNA damage increases, the basin of the repair attractor shrinks, accompanied by the rising of the apoptosis attractor and the expansion of its basin, indicating that the cell becomes more irreparable with more DNA damage. For severe DNA damage, the repair attractor vanishes, and the apoptosis attractor dominates the state space, accounting for the exclusive fate of death. Based on the Boolean network model, we explore the significance of links, in terms of the sensitivity of the two-phase dynamics, to perturbing the weights of links and removing them. We find that the links are either critical or ordinary, rather than redundant. This implies that the p53 network is irreducible, but tolerant of small mutations at some ordinary links, and this can be interpreted with evolutionary theory. We further devised practical control schemes for steering the system into the apoptosis attractor in the presence of DNA damage by pinning the state of a single node or perturbing the weight of a single link.
